When you treat the Alliance with contempt when you are on your high end of power. And then discover that, in the end you need the Alliance more than you believed. It can be hard to be standing there - alone...

You kow. When the US was busy waging war in Iraq. The rest of the NATO Alliance was waking up, and working hard to get their act together.. And this picture, are maybe showing more what GWB have become in the Alliance than 1000 word would manage to do ever..

Not surprising that MR Bush want former Soviet republic to be part of NATO. When US and HE is in desperate need of more fiends.. Ukraine are one of the "targets" for NATO membership.. Even if it means that Ukraine have to come to grasp with the prospect of a rather _angry_ Russia... It was bad enough that Poland and some other former East block country was coming to the Alliance.. Now US want to push for a former SOVIET REPUBLIC... That is an whole another Story. And if anything goes down, the President should have learn little about Russian history, before he is making Russia pissed off

Even that I do not for a second that mr Bush care about sorts thing anyway..

I for one DON'T like the idea of this missile defense Shield for a second. But I guess the leaders of NATO are going by the line of "US would made this shield, and the bases in Poland and in the Tsjekk republic anyway, so it is possible better to get along, and hopefully get some in return"... I doubt that many european really like the idea of a baby Star-Wars system based in Europe... This sytem, who mr Bush are claiming are to reign in unruly rouge states are more pointed to Russia and China, then to stop Iran, North Korea and its like to treathen USA..

I for one hope not Russia and China get their best heads together and decide to make a little Star-Wars on their own. Off course in the face of "rouge states" and not presented as a danger for US or NATO:sarcasm: And then put the bases where the rockets, and the radar installations was more than provoking United States of America.. As in former "friendly" Soviet republic's or on rented Iranian land... Then they may even tell the US and NATO, that they might get something in return, if they was to try to get the bandwagon on China or Russland...

But, even without the Son of Star Wars program, the conventional arm of Russia and China should be more than the US armed forces could manage to suppress.. It is not NAT long ago, the US armed forces based in West Germany feared the russian armed forces based in East Germany and the other Warsaw pact nations... And in due course...
