And here I thought I knew my Constitution, but the Bush Administration must have found some secret addition to it or something.

The man behind the quote was John Yoo, and the context applied to torture.

Protection?

Republicans said Pinochet sought to protect the Chilean people from Allende, but in reality he was 'disappearing' thousands of innocent people and sent others to be tortured by a pedophile Nazi.

Republicans said that the Contras simply wanted to protect the Nicaraguan people from the Sandinistas, but it turned out that they were mutilating and killing innocent people, killing humanitarian activists, and shipping crack cocaine into the US.

Republicans said that the Death Squads in El Salvador were protecting the country from communists, I don't know how you protect a country by raping nuns and killing children like in the El Mozote Massacre.

Republicans said that the Apartheid Regime was protecting their country from communist influence, you must really be protecting your country when you outlaw interracial marriage, are implicated in the assassination of the Prime Minister of Sweden, conduct a campaign of state-sponsored terrorism, and ignore the AIDS crisis.

And now, Republicans want to protect YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

1. They also have a Constitutional mandate to refrain from attacking it from within...
but that hasn't stopped them.

2. I have gotten to the point
that every time I hear "PROTECT" from BushCo it sounds more like "bend over and grab your ankles".
