This is the most beautiful picture I've seen today.

From this article:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/28/city.sexchange.ap/index.html

LARGO, Florida (AP) -- The City Commission voted to begin the process of firing a top official less than a week after he announced plans to pursue a sex-change operation.

The 5-to-2 vote Tuesday started a three-step process to remove City Manager Steve Stanton from the job he's held for 14 years.

Stanton, 48, confirmed last week that he is a transsexual. With a solid reputation as a forceful and energetic leader, he had hoped to keep his $140,000-a-year job as he underwent the gender reassignment process.

"It's just painful to know seven days ago I was a good guy and now ... I have no integrity," Stanton told the commission. "My challenge here has always been that someday I was going to leave this organization. So I am going to do it with a smile on my face."

I SO admire Steve Stanon for daring to be honest. What's happening as a result is a disgrace. The picture says it all.

Peace! :hippie:

2. If he was in Cuba the operation would be covered also.
A couple of weeks ago, there was a thread in LBN about Cuba's move to provide reassignment surgery as part of their universal health care system.

12. he offends their xtians sensibilities of not being grateful for the body
he was given and wants to play God and reassign his sex to the one he feels most comfortable being. That is what this boils down to. They don't like him being able to play God in his life when they feel that's their job alone.

17. According to the article...
"Commissioner Mary Gray Black said Stanton's surprise announcement last week "caused stress, turmoil, distraction and work disruption" among other city employees."

I smell a lawsuit.

9. I hope the public outcry will be enough to reverse this
attempt to fire Stanton. If not, I hope a lawsuit is in the works.

16. which public
Something tells me that the local public would be just fine with this. The same area in Florida was also extremely hostile to atheists as well- I vaguely recall a story about a school board or zoning board having a big controversy over prayers at the meetings. Not a very open minded and accepting area. You'd think that living in paradise would mellow you out that you wouldn't need to be so hostile and judgemental. This case is cut and dry shameless discrimination. 14 years and now all of a sudden he has to go? Makes me sick.

10. They are attacking Stanton simply because Stanton was born with the wrong set of genitalia.

I think that their attacks on Stanton are wrong.

14. I hope he wins. no one has the right to be fired if they do their job
well because someone is 'uncomfortable'. God, we'd have no political system if that applied to all.

15. 14 years.
That right there assures that Stanton has been a wonderful employee for the city. And now they fire him because of this so called "immorality." What a fucking disgrace.

18. It's so ridiculous.
We could get the cast of "Boston Legal" to take the case, and it would still be a slam dunk, given the brazen discrimination taking place.
