Iglesias: Members of Congress urged indictment for political reasons

<snip>

Iglesias says he ignored pressure from two congressmen to push an indictment that might have helped Republicans in the 2006 election.

Iglesias says the two members of Congress contacted him prior to the 2006 election to ask about an ongoing investigation of a kickback scheme, appearing eager to see an indictment just before the elections.

Senator Jeff Bingaman and Representatives Tom Udall and Steve Pearce denied contacting Iglesias.

Senator Pete Domenici and Representative Heather Wilson haven’t returned repeated phone calls seeking comment.

1. Well, logically one might surmise they were from Iglesia's state.
Which is New Mexico. And if he was getting heat for not prosecuting Democrats, they would be Republicans. So the trail would certainly seem to lead to Domenici and Wilson...

2. That is a bit strange that Congressman would ask for status
of an on going investigation? Is that allowed? So we just wait for Wilson, and Domenici to return phone calls to find out. Why doesn't the Judge say who the two calls were from and stop the guessing.
