First Obama said it but then apologized for the remark. Now McCain has said it and people are demanding an apology from him.

What--taking a 19 year old kid and sending him to fight in the NeoCons wet dream of a war isn't a waist of his precious life if he is killed? :wtf:

Me-thinks it's the biggest waist of life ever---and that doesn't include the 1000's of Iraqi innocent lives who were waisted because a couple of idiots can conquer the Middle East.

I share your outrage, but might I suggest that you're aiming for "regret" and "waste" in this context?

7. LOL. First thing I thought when I read it as well.
The message loses something when one automatically pictures a belt fighting in vain to hold back an "Americanized" gut.

9. I usually allow a lot of leeway on this type of thing, but this is just too much. It ruins the cont
content of the message, because one gets distracted by the incorrect words.

16. Here's a good rule of thumb:
Would we at DU mock an equivalent misspelling if it came from a Freeper?

No disrespect to the OP, and I'm certainly not comparing him to a Freeper, but we're quick enough to declare things HUGH!!!!!1!! that it's in our interest to be extra careful in articulating our outrage!

3. their lives were not wasted!
If they were wasted lives, we wouldn't be talking/writing about them would we because it would not matter. Perhaps a lesson has been learned I can only hope and a horrible lesson it is for many to learn.

I believe that they have died in vain however, yes I do, and it is truly a tragedy.

We MUST support our troops whether we support the war or not ourselves personally.

Not to support some person in the military no matter how or why they are there to me is truly un-American.

The best idea yet is U.S. OUT OF THE MIDDLE EAST NOW! as more troops are sadly dying in vain as I type. :(

Which is worse, wasting the lives of 3,000+ Americans or telling the truth about it?

8. I would say it slightly different.

Instead of putting it as "Their lives have been waisted", I would rather say that "George Dubya Bush is responsible for WAISTING their lives!"

Hammer that home. He sent them into the grinder for what?

that our soldiers are getting fat fighting in Iraq, and therefore "waisted"?

18. The new Bait in the new Bait and Switch is the Blood of American Troops.
Have you read this yet? http://www.newyorker.com/printables/fact/070305fa_fact_hersh

RE: General Pace's testimony before the Senate Appropriations committee yesterday - Pace is saying one third of the total military force in Iraq will not be fully manned, fully trained, or equipped AND he (Cheney) doesn't want Murtha to do anything about that.

Pace also said before the Senate Appropriations Committee that a weak Iraqi government (Shia) results in stronger militias (Sunni). The "Redirection" documented by Seymour Hersh (linked above) describes a process that is weakening Shia in the region and strengthening Sunnis.

So, as the Sunni Iraqi militias get stronger they have to decide whether to kill more Americans or more Shia. Doesn't the fact that the Administration is resisting Murtha's plan, and thus leaving those forces weak in that situation, suggest that this is supposed to push the Sunni Iraqi militias in the direction of attacking the Shia instead?

It's the old "Bait and Switch" routine again. Only this time it is American Blood being waved under the noses of the Sunnis in the region to get them into what's going on, and then through the use of special Sunni operative$$$$$$$$, their efforts are turned on the Shia instead.

22. their lives were not wasted
Just look at Bechtel, Halliburton , KBR and other Cheney favored defense contractors and you'll see their lives were definitely not wasted. Their lives were used constructively to improve the financial BOTTOM LINES of the aforementioned companies.

BLOOD FOR OIL, as Billionaires for Bush would say.

24. What's the matter with you? Don't you believe in trickle down?
:sarcasm:

Don't let the spelling police bug you too much, but DO reform, 'cause the spelling police are forever dilligent!

I used to be a great speller; I've noticed a decline it that lately. I wonder if that has something to scanning, instead reading word for word, all of the time on the internet.
