***Mrs. Rumsfeld was informed of Walter Reed last OCTOBER***
I looked and didn't see this posted....

Last October, Joyce Rumsfeld, the wife of then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, was taken to Walter Reed by a friend concerned about outpatient treatment. She attended a weekly meeting, called Girls Time Out, at which wives, girlfriends and mothers of soldiers exchange stories and offer support.

According to three people who attended the gathering, Rumsfeld listened quietly. Some of the women did not know who she was. At the end of the meeting, Rumsfeld asked one of the staff members whether she thought that the soldiers her husband was meeting on his visits had been handpicked to paint a rosy picture of their time there. The answer was yes.

When Walter Reed officials found out that Rumsfeld had visited, they told the friend who brought her -- a woman who had volunteered there many times -- that she was no longer welcome on the grounds.

I guess Joyce didn't want to bother her husband Sec of Def. that the soldiers were being abused by the military system.

Ah well, poor Joyce had other concerns on her mind. Poor hubby was being picked on by everyone but the INNER CIRCLE.

I will be checking back later. Trying to do my comic on this topic.

If you haven't been there in a while go check out some of my latest published comics.

1. Guess Rummy had a beautiful mind too.
Don't tell my now Joyce, I'm carving the Thanksgiving turkey. (He always reminded me of the snoozing grandpa at holiday gatherings.)

2. "GIRLS""" time out? apart from the patronizing, patriarchal tone there, WHY in the HELL did she
keep silent?

a reminder-- walter reed was working on the "mice problem" back in october, as I recall from the WaPo article, so they KNEW--those smug, indifferent bastards KNEW.

8. Sheesh I did look for the posting but not hard enough ;=D
When you posted this I was probably heading to bed. I keep funky hours....

But like you said more people need to be aware. Sometimes I don't post a story because I fear someone else has posted and I don't want to be redundant. But DU post moves so fast sometimes it's hard to keep up....

4. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that ChimpCo was innundated with complaints

at every level and clearly knew about the problem at Walter Reed, and that the removal of the hospital commander was only done when the situation became politically embarrassing. It would be shocking to me in fact if the reverse were true, that ChimpCo didn't know about it before and were only now removing the commander, having just learned the truth.

6. Halliburton and the other defense contractors made record sums...
during all this time, so there just wasn't the money to clean up building 18. Halliburton/KB&R was busy serving rotten meals and sewer water to the troops in the field to help boost the troops morale and keep them in tip top combat condition.

9. Thanks for the reminder. Gawd, why aren't more people angry about
the deplorable treatment of soldiers in the field as well as here? :(

11. Another example of the ROT of the UPPER MILITARY BRASS
This is one of the main issues facing the democrats concerning additional funding of our military "operations in Iraq."

Where is the funding going to Halliburton?

When will the military get the balls to end the no bid contracts from Halliburton?

Time and time again the pentagon has faulted Halliburton with abuse, yet Time and time again they are never punished. No instead they are rewarded with more MONEY.
Funny thing there used to be a time in this country if someone was caught abusing the system they were punished not rewarded. I guess it helps to have your CEO as the sitting VP.........

13. Think about this the next time you hear the GOP compare Bush to
Lincoln.

Abe Lincoln hated and went after the shyster war profiteers of the day and their "shoddy goods" with a vengeance, during the American Civil War. Bush rewards Ruthless war profiteers at every turn, with more no bid contracts.

12. She may have but I doubt it,
something in my gut tells me these ladies don't talk policy with their mates. But I could be wrong.

I guess that's a question for Dana to ask her or her friend who was banned from Walter Reed...
