Joining the smokers/Cutting the smoke at Rush Limbaugh's show
Years ago, my mom heard a physician, a non-smoker, who said that, in order to make airplanes healthier, he chose a seat in the smoking section. That way, there would be one less seat available for a smoker on that flight. I thought, at the time, that that was a cool idea. So now, I am thinking that, those of us who wouldn't vomit by calling the Rush Limbaugh show (and this would exclude my nauseous self) should dial his number, take a place in line and try to use up the air time and phone line space for his show. Why should he have all the fun? Those who could stomach this could say the "code word" ditto, speak slowly, take up time, pause, cough, clear the throat, act nervous, etc.,etc., etc. I wonder if we could make a dent. Any takers?

1. That's why he no longer has a TV show. Audience Libs ruined it for Rush to talk to himself.
Calls can be screened. They also run on a delay.

2. TV
Oh. I didn't know he ever was on television. Well, surely a bunch of creative DUers could pull something off! With the brain power and interest here, I think something could be done. I would never know, though, because I really can't stand hearing the guy.

3. If you look for it, you can find a clip of his short fated TV show (in the 90s)

As you can only do one show per shoot and Rush's schtick is about him talking to himself (and agreeing with himself about lies that he know are not true but Johnny Sixpack does not) it failed horribly when a bunch of DUer-esque folks snuck in amongst the NY yuppie crowd (that's where it was shot...I remember seeing the clip and thinking "Alex P. Keaton" clones.) and started to point out his lies loudly and angrily.

His show flopped after that. I used to be kind of a fan in HS but after the show I realized a simple truth: He does not debate. HE CANNOT DEBATE! He is lying about shit and there is no counter arguement to offset the balance. He claims that everything has a liberal bias. Compared to him a dictionary has a liberal bias...

I am afraid the pre-screening method as well as the delay on the show kills many callers who might think otherwise compared to Rush. It's really pointless.

The only cure for Rush is true and open debate. Not "Hardball" but real and honest debate and not shouting matches.

4. What a great idea!
That would work.....for all of one phone call IF you had an interesting topic that would get past the phone screener.

And as soon as you start hemming and hawing, don't you think he would hit the "drop" button to end the call thus freeing up the line for the next caller.

Even better, boycott his sponsors. Do not spend one dime with those who sponsor his show. That will teach him a lesson!

This reply is true of any radio call in program.

5. Sponsors
Does anyone already know what companies sponsor his show? I
wonder if it is online somewhere. I can't stand the thought
of listening to him to find out. Thanks.

6. This list is a year old --- almost to the day.

Don't know how accurate it might be today. Welcome to DU BTW. :hi:

7. Thanks. And checking now...
I am on the hunt now in Barnes and Noble. Have called the number listed above on the list, and that is not the number to use. I was told to call 212 414-6000, and ask for the ad vertising dept., which I am about to do.

8. Left Message
Denise Edwards, at 212 414-6000 is the person to speak to about Barnes and Noble and advertising. She was away from her desk, but I left a message. They had better not be sponsors!!! But if word gets out that they do sponsor RL, then their sales can only go down. I am waiting for a call back. More later. And on to the next name on the above list.

9. Why don't you consider the following
Start a "Not one Dime" movement. Get people to not spend any money on the advertisers for RL.

Then you can expand that to the gas pump. Get everyone to not spend a dime on gas on a certain day. That is sure to send a message to the oil comapnies!

11. Not Scottrade
I spoke with Doria at Scottrade corp. headquarters in St. Louis. They stopped advertising in 2002, she said. She said that the Scottrade name continues to get attached to RL, and they have had a hard time dissociating from that show. Why they ever did is beyond me. But, at least they gave up six years ago.

12. That list doesn't sound very reliable.

I found it by Googling "Limbaugh advertisers". You might try doing
the same and you might even come up with something more current.

13. Not Cartridge World
According to Sharon Kinkade at Cartridge World, they are not national sponsors. She said that local businesses may be. We should find that out. Thanks.

14. Not EHarmony
EHarmony is also listed above as a sponsor. Eileen at Ocean Media stated that eHarmony is not an advertiser at RL, and hasn't been for about three years.
