Simple solution for American economic woes
Shop American.
If there is one made in the USA, buy it.
I try to buy union stuff, made in America when I can find it.

Anyone out there got some good links to made in America goods?

1. I think most of us are quite willing to try that
but good luck on finding it.

Most of us have realized that goods made offshore, especially in Asia, are of inferior quality. We're sick of being stuck with stuff that breaks easily, wears out quickly, or just doesn't work at all and there is generally no alternative to any of it.

I would be thrilled to be able to find things made in this country. Our quality was vastly superior to that of China.

4. Was is the operative word there
Only now, many of the American manufacturers are gone, shut down, boarded up, and flown the coop. Whole factories have been dismantled piece by piece and exported to China.

Were the world to embargo America for some reason, it would be in sad, sad shape. In short order, everyone would look like they shopped at the Salvation Army, because there would be no new clothes to buy. Which is not as bad as it sounds for although people couldn't get dressed up, it's not like they would have any place to go, what with no gasoline to fuel the cars. There would still be plenty of food, as America is a food exporter, but the new cuisine would have little of the variety that is possible now with food making an average trip of 1500 miles from field to consumer. On the bright side, the environment would be a little cleaner, as the river of cheap plastic crap headed to the landfill would dry right up.

7. On the whole, it might not be such a bad thing.
Good for the environment, good for American jobs. It would hurt for a while, though.

6. FindUSMade.com
This site has thousands of individual sources, 13 online malls, dozens of searchable databases and links to other online sources for Made in the USA products.

You would be very surprised to discover what is manufactured in this country!

http://www.findusmade.com/index.htm

Whenever I leave that site, I leave feeling hopeful.

I posted about the site in December: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x2436571

As a small business owner, I can tell you that every dollar a consumer spends has the power to change the marketplace.
