Rep. Tom Petri recognized for dedication to English language
U.S. Rep. Tom Petri, R-Fond du Lac, has been recognized by U.S. English Inc. for his dedication to preserving the unifying role of the English language in the United States.

Petri was one of a select number of House members honored with an "A in English" award based on his votes and co-sponsorships of official English legislation in the 110th Congress. He was the only Wisconsin legislator to receive the award, according to a press release from U.S. English.

"Rep. Petri has been a strong supporter of official English policies during his time in Congress. At a time when there is renewed interest toward preserving what unites us as a nation, we are grateful to Rep. Petri for his dedicated and enthusiastic support of this issue," said Mauro Mujica, chairman of the board of U.S. English Inc.

"A in English" honors were awarded to members who received "A" grades on the U.S. English Inc. legislative scorecard for the 110th Congress. Legislation that factored into the decision included co-sponsorship of HR 997, the English Language Unity Act, as well as a series of congressional votes on reducing multilingualism in government and allowing employers the flexibility to enact English-in-the-Workplace policies.

1. I am sure the kkk gives out awards too, they just don't give out press releases
when they do...this is some racist, xenophobic people who made up a group and then an award, then searched for other racist, xenophobic people to give it to.

PS no byline??? who wrote this??

2. He's a grade A loser as far as I
can see...always has been. Sure wish someone would run against him here. Besides that, we don't speak "English" we speak "American" which is many languages all put in a blender and each contributor benefits. We even have included computer speak in our American language..w00t!

3. Oh...
I thought at first it meant skill in using language. I could support that. Any bets that he can't speak in complete sentences?

4. Is he going to insist on changing the name of his home city?
After all, can't have the English language's greatest defender coming from a Frenchie-named city, can we?

Fond du Lac translates to 'bottom of the lake,' which is where all his xenophobic efforts belong.

5. Lake Bottom, Wisconsin
I think we've got some other town names that are that bad. This is the sort of stuff I would expect from Sensenbrenner, whose constituents in the neighboring district are just as bad.

6. that's the only thing that moran has done
he is the most useless piece of garbage in the house. The only reason he keeps being re-elected is that he is filthy rich and has a huge war chest. He won't debate the democratic candidate alone, insists on including the fringe parties...so they can say "eliminate taxes and solve the world's problems." Or "Abortion is the cause of all problems." He's done absolutely nothing in congress. I doubt he even shows up.

7. But you're still speaking English...
and if it weren't for Petri, maybe we'd all be speaking Pig Latin. :hi:

8. "A in English"?? If he's so dedicated, why doesn't he waste valuable
time with a resolution to rename the language from English to American? He must be some kind of pussy traitor.

What an idiotic waste of time.

9. We don't speak "English" in the States;
we speak American. English is spoken in England; thus this so-called award is without any merit.
