So - Jon Stewart is making a difference in Georgia??
I about fell over when the office freeper informed us she might vote for Obama come November. It's not that she's unhappy with Grandpa - it's that from watching The Daily Show she's come to realize the Republicans don't care about our soldiers - and she thinks Obama will do more to keep them from having to go to a war than Grandpa will. She said over the last 2 years most everyone fellow freep she hangs with has started watching The Daily Show - and not to pick it apart but to listen.

Jon Stewart may just be the best political "newscaster" in America. LOL

((which is very sad))

4. Yes, I know most freeps are old farts.
As an oldish fart myself, I have to catch the replay at 8 but I do have it programmed to record. I rarely get the see the original.

I'm thinking even freeps are smart enough to operate a VCR. :)

2. The jester's role was always
to tell truth to power.

Historically, they were the only ones in the royal court who could tell the king what he needed to hear, but nobody else dared to say.

Not that King George is listening, of course--there have always been puppet kings like him--but some of his more benighted followers may be starting to wake up.

6. Jon is the only 'news' my 23 year old incurious niece watches.
I suspect there are many people like her. Hey, whatever works!

8. I used to watch regularly, but gave up the cable.
However, compared to the MSM news shows, The Daily Show always came off as a hard-edged news show and I always found a lot more truth there than from Brian Williams, Woof Blitzer, et al. Jon Stewart isn't busy kissing asses over at the WH to protect his access, so he's not afraid to expose the hypocrisy or the ridiculousness of the maladministration - or the rest of the government, for that matter.

Don't worry, she isn't missing out one bit. Jon is a fine journalist.

9. He'd have to arm wrestle with Olbermann for that one, but
he is one stellar patriot. I used to think he was boilerplate comedian who will take it where he can get it until I saw him on Crossfire or was it Hardball, anyway, he took the hosts to task and they were trying to get him to do his funny schtick and he told them they were killing us, killing democracy. I realized then, that while he is a great comedian, that is dwarfed by his genuine patriotism. For that reason alone, I will follow that man to the ends of the earth. He is very good people.

It's sad that we don't have "real" newscasters anymore, but in his joking way, Jon Stewart is doing some of the best journalism around and he deserves whatever accolades he gets for his journalistic integrity. He's as real as Edward R. Murrow, except he has funnier writers.
