The McCain campaign is reversing course and allowing reporters into the candidate’s fund-raisers. Sen. Barack Obama has long allowed reporters into most of his fund-raisers, but Sen. John McCain has resisted. Just recently, McCain defended the policy, saying that that was the request of the people raising the money.
A McCain aide said it had not yet been determined whether every event will be opened to the press or if there will be exceptions. The Obama campaign had begun to make an issue of the matter. Just a few days ago, an Obama aide urged Washington Wire to write about Sen. McCain’s closed fund-raisers.
Starting Monday, a small pool of reporters will be permitted to listen to McCain’s remarks and then report back to the larger McCain press corps. He has a fund-raiser scheduled for Richmond, Va., followed by two in Washington, D.C.
