New Poll: Senator Obama takes the lead in Michigan against McBush!!-45-42%
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 11:47 AM by RMP2008
I've been waiting for some key swing state polls to come out that were dated after Senator Obama finally clinched the nomination and we now have one from arguably one of the most critical states. It bears good news. This is even better since Obama was thought to be trailing slightly in MI, but nope he's not!:)

http://www.rasmussenreports.com

The latest Rasmussen Reports poll in Michigan shows Barack Obama attracting 45% of the vote while John McCain earns 42%. This is the fourth poll in Michigan since McCain wrapped up the Republican nomination and all four have found the candidates within three points of each other. In both May and late-March McCain held a statistically insignificant one-point lead.

Obama has reduced the gap among male voters and now trails McCain by eleven percentage points among men. That’s down from a nineteen point deficit last month. Obama leads by thirteen among women, a figure that has changed little. McCain is supported by 83% of Republicans while Obama currently gets the vote from 74% of Democrats. In our previous survey, those numbers were 84% and 70% respectively. McCain now leads by five points among Michigan’s unaffiliated voters, down from a thirteen point lead in May.

Obama has a solid lead among voters under 30, but older voters tend to be fairly evenly divided.

The current survey was taken six days after Obama clinched the Democratic Presidential Nomination. During that time, he has enjoyed a modest bounce nationally in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll.

8. It's obvious you don't know Michigan.
The Democrats will be lucky to win this state ... and it will ONLY happen if there's a vigorous and active campaign that faces the voters and addresses their concerns DIRECTLY.

12. OK, so educate me.
What are the unique concerns in Michigan that you seem to think would be better addressed by McCain?

13. It's not about MY preferences.
It's about how the people in this state vote. Let's try to recall that the POLLS leading up to the 1980 election failed to predict the "Reagan Democrat" phenomenon - and the prototype of that phenomenon was Macomb County, Michigan. Let's try to recall that UNEMPLOYMENT in Michigan has been a problem through both the Clinton AND the BushJr administrations ... largely blamed on the off-shoring of jobs and the impact of energy pricing on the auto industry. Let try to remember that McCain AND Romney have been winners in this state ... and Romney was raised here.

After the FUBAR in January, the general attitude of the voters in this state is "FUCK BOTH Parties!" ... and remember that the GOP NEVER disenfranchised the voters in THEIR primary. The attitudes of auto industry workers REMAINS negative toward politicians who'd raise CAFE standards without addressing THEIR employment prospects.

I don't give a flying fuck about all those who argue that the people here would be better off with a Democrat in the White House ... because UNLESS that Democrat actually comes and EARNS their vote, they ain't coming out to vote for him. People here STILL argue that "Kerry wouldn't have been any better!"

When will some people get it through their thick skulls that Democrats don't 'earn' votes merely because the GOP fucks up? That mental malfunction is the mark of losers. These people have been fucked over for 20 years. They don't believe EITHER party ... and then buy into the "smaller is better" propaganda being peddled by the McCain people.

The ARROGANCE of people who don't live here and make grand, self-serving proclamations about how this state will vote is truly obnoxious.

14. Well, when you're more interested in actually educating people..
about Michigan, and not venting, let me know, OK?

Meanwhile, I'll just say this: we are on the same side, and there is no reason for you to call me arrogant. Or even infer that I'm arrogant. Just my opinion, of course.

4. He should be getting more than 74% of Democrats.
Its because of the primary issues. Hopefully more stubborn Clinton people come around and support Obama.

6. He will, it's only been a week.
... and just a few days if you count from Hillary's official concession. People are still decompressing. Two more weeks from now that gap should be at about 8 I'd wager.

16. It's because of the racists in our party.
We've got'em. Time to get out there and recruit new Dems.

5. Michigan will be easier to win than Ohio I think
We really need to get some boots on the ground there...because I'm pessimistic about Florida going blue. If McCain chooses Romney, that could really throw a monkey wrench in there.

7. Yeah
The 74% number is a bit disheartening but I am sure that it will improve over the next several weeks.

9. That is Great News!
although depending on voters under 30 for the margin of victory is very dicey. The lead has got grow.
