Our top story: Tim Russert is still dead
This from the network that brought you the classic "Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead", no less. Major floods are bearing down on Iowa, the Taliban is back in action, but first, our top story:

Tim Russert has been dead since Friday afternoon.

That's what was on the Today show. I'm SERIES!!11!!11!!! They even had his son Luke on, for extra tearjerker effect. Sheesh. :eyes:

1. Is it only NBC, or all the stations doing this?

5. Well, like the messiah, I expected him to rise on Sunday
And appear on MTP. He would have proven who he was by greasy fingers from eating Buffalo wings and a "Bush 00" sticker under his lapel.

Heck, we could have had another holiday. Perhaps we could have called it "Easter II." But no, Timmeh is still dead. He, unfortunately, wasn't the second coming.

17. I'm not even anti-Russert like some here
but if I were the producer, we'd report the news -- today's news -- then throw up a Russert memorial screen and maybe play a classic Russert clip before we went to commercial.

10. How long before he is in the ground.
Enough is enough already.

People die everyday, many of them in Iraq.

That's right, we can't talk about the real news going on.

13. But, but, Timmeh's dead!!!!
Have you no compassion, sir? Those are just unfortunate victims who aren't important enough to live inside the beltway. Where's your sense of decency, man?

12. It was truly rather maudlin all weekend. I'm a total news junkie. MSNBC in particular
mainly because of Keith Olbermann.

But CRIMINY!!!!! It was too much even for me. I just couldn't watch. The attempted canonization was utterly stomach-turning. Because I can't forget how his biased on-air presentations helped mightily to get us to the abyss we're in now. I'm tired of hearing what a great father and devoted son he was. How many great fathers and devoted sons are dead from Iraq - because of his cheerleading to get us there?

I could see it for Princess Di. I could see it for JP2. I could even see it for ronald reagan. But for Pete's Sake! Tim Russert was just a high-profile TV guy with a big Sunday show. Did we see this kind of thing for Mr. Rogers? Did we see this for Merv Griffin or Johnny Carson? Did David Brinkley get this kind of treatment when he died? How about Edward R. Murrow? If Cronkite gets similar homage when he goes, then I won't complain so much, because he is truly a giant. The Russert tributes are just WAY WAY WAY over the top.

Please! NBC - give us a break (Good Lord if they didn't start up again on Monday morning, first thing, Today show and more)!!! This is just excessive!

And yes, Generalissimo Timoteo Russerto is still dead.

I certainly don't remember Colin fuckin' Powell calling in to express his regrets for Jennings passing.
