pitching the privatizing plan. She & McNuts are wrong! Index the cap to inflation! That will fix everything and won't hurt anyone!

5. no, I disagree with eliminating the cap completely. All these years
we've been able to destroy the RW argument that SS is a welfare program because everyone has an equal investment and an equal benefit. If you really think about it, somebody who is a CEO and has a salary of $1,500,000 a year really shouldn't have to pay $114,500 into SS/MC each year! I don't know what the maximum benefit payment is, but I can tell you that my husband receives $1,500/mo and that's before the deduction for medicare insurance. I will be applying for SS in Sept. this year and I will be receiving about the same, except the $100 medicare ins. will have to come out of each of our checks because hubby will retire as soon as I am eligible for medicare. $31,000 wukk be enough ## to keep us comfortable but certainly not wealthy. But I don't think it;s reasonable to ask someone who is making the BIG BUCKS to pay so much! There's no way they would EVER come close to benefitting from what they had to contribute.

We have consistently raised the cap over the years, and it will solve the problem again.

I think the much more serious problem is medicare! If we don't find a solution to the rapidly escalating medical costs, medicare is doomed!

3. You do realize that a worst-case scenario has SS solvent at 100% through 2041, right?

Eliminate the FICA cap (which does already increase every year) and exempt the first $15k in earnings from FICA withholding.

This would both generate SS revenue and stimulate the economy.

4. Eliminating or pushing the cap upward to 120K per individual or higher would do it. However...
if the US gov't should ever default on debt obligations to countries like China and Japan, which have been the two biggest subsidizers of American deficit spending in terms of the war, Social Security along with everything else will fall on its face.
