Conyers holds all the aces, and will still fold his hand.
Rove will ignore the Judiciary Committee's subpoena because he knows that, though Conyers and the committee can have him arrested, Conyers will do nothing more than gripe and complain about it. Hell, Conyers won't even stand up to the spineless Pelosi. What makes anyone believe that he will stand up to Rove?

Our republic is toast.

6. Maybe he holds out hope he can retroactively investigate
and issue charges after the elections. I think it is foolhardy though.

yesterday that Pelosi does not want Conyers to go after Rove, very possible, since she's CYA.

7. Conyers made a promise to the American people that is more sacred
than the one he made to Pelosi. It's damned disappointing to see how both have lost their courage.

Who thinks he wants a constitutional crisis during the middle of his general election? Yea that would be just the ticket.

11. Democracy is a messy thing. Conyers should have taken
care of this long before now. He's the one who set the date for Rove to testify. If he didn't want a "constitutional crisis" at this moment, then why in the hell did he set one up?

Remember when DK demanded a recount of one of the first Dem primaries like a goof ball?

Well after that it went all downhill for him. He will be damn lucky just to hold on to his congressional seat now.

18. A primary recount is not the same as ignoring a subpoena.

A top government official is openly and brazenly ignoring a congressional subpoena.

That can't stand.

10. Where are all the Pelosi apologists
who were whining that "she must know something we don't" when she declared impeachment was off the table?

Appeasement accomplished nothing, and Pelosi is a sellout. I am sick.

16. Well...
First of all, what do you expect Rove will do? I'm all for bringing him up in front of the cameras and making him sweat. I'll cherish the day this piece of humanoid shit is brought to justice and can't weasel his way out. Right now he knows he's got a free pass as this regime will do all it can to assure his silence with all sorts of obstructions. A lot of what Conyers hopes to find...and we know is there...is still out of reach thanks to "Executive Privilidge"...and Rove will do just like what Addington did...make a mockery of the whole proceedings.

I'm all for throwing inherent contempt at the bastard...cuff him and throw him in the Capitol basement and let him rot...or even better...send him to Gitmo for a month...let him get good and "tender".

One interesting tidbit that came out of Abrams show last night was how it appears that the good GOOP Judge Bates may actually compell Harriet Meyers to testify. If that's the case, that means he's gonna strike down some, if not all, of the Executive Privilidge shellgame this regime is playing. If that happens, then let's see how Conyers and Waxman proceede.

19. They put the governor of Alabama behind bars...
It doesn't matter if you are guilty of anything - so long as you are on the wrong side of the criminals. John Conyers has reason to be concerned, because the Democrats do not have his back.

we are being treated to feigned indignation and consternation brought to you by our retarded kabuki theater congress.

nothing will be done. They are playing out the chorus until 1/20/09. After which, everything will be papered over and we will be told to move on, "for the good of the nation".

we are sooooo 3rd world now it's pathetic.

29. His wife should be indicted, for reasons that have nothing to do with Bush
She's corrupt, and obnoxious.

I like Conyers, but I don't know why he married that stupid woman. Oh, yeah, she was like 25 when they got married (and he was around 60).
