DHS wants ALL airline passengers to wear taser bracelets.
What other liberty changes should we expect to pop up under the guise of protecting the public from another 911 event?

" Just when you thought you’ve heard it all...

A senior government official with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expressed great interest in a so-called safety bracelet that would serve as a stun device, similar to that of a police Taser®. According to this promotional video found at the Lamperd Less Lethal website, the bracelet would be worn by all airline passengers.

This bracelet would:

• take the place of an airline boarding pass

• contain personal information about the traveler

• be able to monitor the whereabouts of each passenger and his/her luggage

• shock the wearer on command, completely immobilizing him/her for several minutes

The Electronic ID Bracelet, as it’s referred to as, would be worn by every traveler “until they disembark the flight at their destination.” Yes, you read that correctly. Every airline passenger would be tracked by a government-funded GPS, containing personal, private and confidential information, and that it would shock the customer worse than an electronic dog collar if he/she got out of line?"

Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 11:03 AM by QuestionAll
everyone gets locked in their seat until the plane reaches it's destination.

or how about just filling the cabin with knock-out gas? that way people wouldn't even miss not getting a meal. it's a win-win solution.

Service is awful - scanners where you are naked - lost luggage. Its a mess and I just don't want any part of it all.

Besides I just hate the idea of Big Brother and will just do about anything to just stay below the radar. I really think we are just losing all of our personal freedoms and it scares me to death. And the weird part is that no one seems to even care. They just right along with it all.

The Middle Class would be well advised to get used to the above travel arrangements, because energy costs will eliminate flying for our class in the near future.

26. It's time to shut them down.
Start doing some hard work in our communities and share the pain like they did in the bus boycotts during the civil rights fight. Walk, carpool like crazy, bike. Buy locally grown foods, grow our own, learn to can again, learn to barter. Shut them down.

AND more importantly, turn every corrupt incumbent out of office--corrupt Ds included. They do us no good if they are on the take and subvert the Constitution. Period.

AS long as they think we believe we need them..they'll push for more and more control and domination over us.The stated goal was FULL Spectrum Domination, that's what these pigs want.

So grind the entire economy to a full stop.DO NOTHING,stay at home..Let the shop floors stay silent, the bank tellers out,the fast food closed, deliveries not delivered,That'll wake up these control freak fuckers real fast and remind them they ain't shit.. Everyone take some time off,and leave the malls ,grocery stores and wal marts empty, and make them STAY that way until we get our rights back, bush is hung for treason along with all the other neocons, the rich are taxed and the war is over, and the pentagon fully audited including the"black projects" and FULL DISCLOSURE Howabout that?for a start?

How many people will you be able to convince to do that, when they have the mortgage due and the car payment due and higher bills for groceries and gas, and they're 2 months awa from being on the street and starving?

The real problem is that they've been successful at setting up a system where we DO need them. the average person in this country no longer has any savings or investments, and can't simply walk off the job. Those without union memberships will lose their jobs, and those with them can't afford it anyway. The rich can sit back and wait until everyone breaks, and they know it.

Will they let passengers reserve what style/color bracelet they'll receive on the DHS website? If so it might just work!

What if you wanted to color-coordinate the ID Bracelet with your orange jump suit and black hood for instance?

Are there any discounts for getting the ID bracelet permanently implanted beneath the skin?

Actually, it might be fun -- if they'd also issue, along with the bracelet, a little dial-in remote that the passengers themselves could use to trigger it.

with endless rules and depressing horror stories where it feels like nothing will ever get better . It probably won't so if they kill those who may resist all the better for them.

Perhaps this is their way of martial law like the airline taser powered wrist band , get it all in place slowelu where most people will accept it and then pull the lever of total control.

According to a letter from DHS official, Paul S. Ruwaldt of the Science and Technology Directorate, office of Research and Development, to the inventor whom he had previously met with, he wrote, “To make it clear, we {the federal government} are interested in…the immobilizing security bracelet, and look forward to receiving a written proposal.” The letterhead, in case you were wondering, came from the DHS office at the William J. Hughes Technical Center at the Atlantic City International Airport, or the Federal Aviation Administration headquarters.

In another part of the letter, Mr. Ruwaldt confirmed, “It is conceivable to envision a use to improve air security, on passenger planes.”

More:

However, nowhere in the PORTION of the letter provided, does it prove the device is intended for ALL passengers.

It COULD be intended just to restrain unruly passengers.

But if they're being unruly in the first place, how do you get the bracelet onto their wrists?

This sounds like it is meant for use on regular passengers.

Maybe just the ones who look "middle-eastern."

It sees that enough american (US) would gladly do this, if it would "protect them against evil" Someone here on DU have called it the "good german syndrome". And I guess it is little like that. In the name of "Protecting" american against "evildoers" they would do everything that the "Government" want them to do, include this one...

And for the sane thing. It is many year sine USA have been a "sane culture". If they had been "sane" the country would have going a whole different route for the last 20-30 year.. And not have all this madness president some of you are so dam proud off.. And mr Bush ar just the worst of the Presidents in curred memory..

Some week ago, I was on the baptize of my youngest niece, and in the surch it was an bussload of older americans. Very nice by the way.. But when one of them asked my, after Church off course. What I would mean about mr Bush, the most kind word I could say to him was "If I have to say something nice about the man, I am very happy it is just 6 month to I se the back of him out the door in the White House.. That is the most kind word I would give him" The older american was silent for some moment and say, okay. Thats that..

50. US Patent 6933851 - Air travel security method, system and device

http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6933851/description.html

US Patent 6933851 - Air travel security method, system and device

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to air travel security methods, systems, and devices
and more particularly to such air travel security methods, systems, and devices
aimed at controlling terrorists, hijackers, and other unruly passengers on an aircraft.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Recently, specifically since Sep. 11, 2001, security at major airports
throughout the world has become a very serious concern. Security measures at such
major airports have been increased very significantly, in many ways. Passengers
are now checked much more thoroughly for identification and for weapons. There
are also many more security personnel at major airports and also many more air
marshals present on commercial flights. In spite of all the presently used tight
security precautions, there is still no effective way to subdue a terrorist, a
hijacker, or an unruly passenger.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In accordance with one aspect of the present invention there is disclosed a novel
method of providing air travel security for passengers traveling via an aircraft,
the method comprising the steps of: (a) permitting the passengers to board the
aircraft for a flight thereon; (b) prior to the aircraft departing for the flight,
situating a remotely activatable electric shock device on each of the passengers
for the duration of the specified flight such that, for each passenger, the situated
electric shock device is in position to deliver a disabling electrical shock to
that passenger; (c) prior to the aircraft departing for the flight, arming the
electric shock devices for subsequent selective activation of the electric shock
devices by a remote source, wherein each activated electric shock device situated
on a passenger, as aforesaid, is operable to deliver the disabling electrical shock
to that passenger; (d) subsequent to the flight, removing the electric shock devices
from the passengers; and, (e) permitting the passengers to disembark the aircraft.

70. Yea, exactly. Remember when flying used to be fun?
Now you have a better time riding the Greyhound bus. It's easier and a whole lot less stressful.

I love to ride trains - maybe those will come back big time.

56. The company peddling this shit is billing .50cal rounds from handguns as "less lethal"
Less lethal than what, a shotgun? If you fire .50cal rounds of anything at someone, it's lethal - be it rubber slugs or bullets.

http://www.lamperdlesslethal.com/product_details.asp?ID=128
"Less lethal" hanguns. "But it wasn't supposed to kill the shackled suspect!"

http://www.lamperdlesslethal.com/product_details.asp?ID=95
"Less lethal" sem-auto rifles for when you want to kneecap suspects and avoid lawsuits.

http://www.lamperdlesslethal.com/product_details.asp?ID=16
"Less lethal" sniper rifles! Now, you can only partially assassinate someone.

http://www.lamperdlesslethal.com/product_details.asp?ID=160
You too can shoot 40 rounds of .50cal "less lethal" ammo at someone.

http://www.lamperdlesslethal.com/product_details.asp?ID=161
Or train your forces on "less lethal" submachineguns to only wound large numbers of bystanders instead of wasting them.

All this TSA shit, the FISA shit, the wiretap shit, has absolutely NOTHING to do with "keeping 'Murika safe."

It has to do with scaring the American people.

It has to do with putting us under their thumbs.

It has to do with getting total and complete control of the sheeple.

It's sick.

It's wrong.

It's immoral.

It's unconstitutional.

AND THEY CAN GO FUCK THEMSELVES!!!

63. The DHS is SO stupid
They don't even take in account people who wear pacemakers or any other electrical device implanted in their bodies. I've got 2 cochlear implants and I always turn them off when I pass through the metal detector (I accidentally went through it once with it turned on and fucking hell it really reacted to the metal detector and made my brain hurt). I had to stay out of participating in a science project where they used an electricity generating machine (I've forgotten the name) and the class held hands to feel the electrical current going through them in a chain.

As much as I want to NOT fly, I've got family in the US and I'd like to visit them when I can!

Thoughtless assholes.

Maybe they can just attach voltage to the seat, so they can prime it up and fry evil doers at high altitude. Tasers, right.

76. I think its troubling enough for a DHS official to publicly express " great interest ". What kind
of mixed signals are they sending the public for protecting their rights when they make such claims? It might sound like a ' chicken little ' story to you as you posted but the sad reality is that should they implement such a jack-boot program at a future date down the road when the security environment shifts, the sleeping public won't have any choice whatsoever should they need to use the airline services for whatever reasons, business or pleasure.......the airlines are the ONLY game in town when it comes to flying.....just think back at how they trained the public to leave their lighters, nail-clippers, colognes, creams off of their travel bags and remove their shoes...those that resisted were made an example of...this will be just another campaign geared at protecting the flying public from all forms of air terror. If its not this program, it will be another but the reality is that they are thinking about a ' fool proof way ' of subduing air violators using very little effort, cost and risk......this system fits their criteria.

Every time one of these kooky ideas comes along, I feel so sad for all the young'uns here who were not alive when flying was FUN!!

People dressed UP to go on a plane..the food was good..drinks were free..seats were roomy, and the inflight service was great..

They gave you stuff,, blankets, pillows, booties..wings for the kids (and a trip up front to meet the captain..during the flight), cards, coloring books & crayons, and all the peanuts you could eat..

You could fly with a small pet, without being treated like a criminal..

Your family could go ON the plane with you, and see you off..you could take the kids out on the tarmac & wave bye-bye as the plane left the gate (before the jetways)..

Traveling on Gulag Airlines just isn't the same

' everyone is a potential suspect peep-show ' sizing everyone's private parts using their scan-through-the-clothing x-ray machines while sniffing everyone's butts as they pass through the ' air-sniffing ' units. If another attack happens on U.S. soil of the same magnitude of 9ii in the near future, you will see changes come about that will make even Ray Bradbury do a double-take and wince.

for such a brazen security request. These lemmings will pave the road as willing participants at first for the rest of us until the story becomes stale and irrelevant and the non-willing will fall one-by-one in line and comply just so they can fly also..........this approach has been used to pacify a public when launching new, innovative products onto the marketplace to quell consumer suspicions.

84. Take off the Tinfoil folks - read further in the Blog
And there is a statement from John Verrico at DHS

Here's the quote:

Shocking, but False

Sometimes it just amazes me how these stories evolve. Let me start off by saying that the Department of Homeland Security’s Science & Technology Directorate nor TSA have been pursuing shock bracelets for airline passengers as alleged by the Washington Times Blog.

This allegation stemmed from a misleading video posted on the Lamberd Website which depicts an ID bracelet that would contain identifying information as well as the ability to stun the wearer. The company claims to connect use of such a device to DHS and TSA, but no discussions between these agencies has ever taken place.

This all originated from a meeting held two years ago with a private company representative (not Lamberd) who proposed bracelet technology in response to the TSA's desire to find less-than-lethal means to detain an apprehended suspect.

The bracelet was never intended to replace boarding passes, contain ID information or be worn by all passengers as asserted in the Lamberd video and discussed in the Washington Times Blog.

The hypothetical use of the bracelet would have been for transporting already apprehended prisoners and detainees at prisons and border patrol facilities, and DHS was looking to see if there were potential air travel applications for apprehended suspects.

This concept was never funded or supported by the DHS or TSA and hasn’t even been discussed for two years. The letter circulating throughout the blogosphere from Paul Ruwaldt was not addressed to Lamberd and merely states the DHS was interested in learning more about the technology. Neither side followed up.

DHS/TSA does NOT support the asserted use and has not pursued the development of such technology.

- John Verrico
DHS S&T Spokesman

Why not the ring around our neck that explodes if we do something wrong?

Shit, there are crazies in this administration. Go find the corporation with the patent on this and see how they have donated to McCain.

Maybe they will revive that long lost genre of movies, the disaster film movies - how about this plot.

*** BREAKING NEWS - They call it a freak of nature, a freak accident that caused an electrical storm that didn't damage the plane but that killed everyone on board. The passengers and crew were wearing the "tag'em" taser wrist bands when they all went haywire and killed everyone on board. The 737 flew through an electrical storm that caused the tasers to malfunction, shocking all passengers and crew for an undetermined period of time causing many to suffer before death and others to die instantly. The pilot struggled to get the plane out of the storm and neutralized, before .... ***
