1. I've noticed when ever a right wing nut uses the word 'American' to describe a group

They are using it in an Us -vs- Them fashion. The implication being that only the right wingers are true Americans, an anyone not in their group is something other than American.

Here I am, born in the USA, but since I take a Liberal approach to politics, I am an outcast in the eyes of people I work and live with.
