Scenes From an Iraqi Childhood (or, Why They Hate Us and Why We Must Leave)
Scenes From an Iraqi Childhood (or, Why They Hate Us and Why We Must Leave)

Posted by Mohammed Ibn Laith, Gorilla's Guides at 6:00 AM on July 16, 2008.

Caution: this post may be jarring for consumers of U.S. media.

Editor's note: George Bush has talked of the importance of bypassing the media's "filter." One of the best ways to do that is to read the -- an Iraqi group blog with posts in English and Arabic -- every day. But fair warning: if you believe our troops are doing more good than harm to the Iraqi people, the blog can be jarring. The posts are, of course, only the opinions of the Iraqi bloggers who contribute, but public opinion data shows that about eight out of ten Iraqis want a timetable for a complete U.S. withdrawal, and they want it soon. Gorilla's Guides help us understand why.

A boy runs from his home as American soldiers drag his father outside - Sadr City July 12th 2008

Boy stands watching as his mother pleads with an American soldier to take his boot off her husband. Note the shirt the boy is wearing - Sadr City July 12th 2008

Boy saying “goodbye” to his father before the Americans take him away to an interrogation centre - Sadr City July 12th 2008.

This posting is specifically for the tiny minority of our readers who are American (or British). What you are looking at are just some of the reasons why we hate you. What you are looking at are just some of the reasons why for as long as their are Americans in our country our country will never be at peace.

Irak is for the Irakis. This is my home not yours and you're completely and utterly unwelcome here.

Mohammed Ibn Laith

never forget.

I agree with the sentiments of the writer we do not belong there, it is not our country. We invaded that country for its resources, and we still have these thugs in DC ruining both our country and Iraq.

I could never forgive some foreign occupiers for doing this to my family under any circumstances.

Ever notice the people who encourage others to enlist never comment on these threads?

4. Oh, c'mon. That boy was throwing flowers at their feet.
That librul insurgent Iraqi blog just conveniently cropped all the flowers out of the pic.

5. I could never get the vision of that soldiers boot on my fathers neck off my mind as long as I lived

Or my mother crying as they did it to him.

Could you?

Don't these soldiers understand what they are doing?

Would they do the same to us if the Crackhead In Chief ordered them to?

6. Yes, they would
I'm not trying to sound trite, but it is true. They are trained to be thoughtless, to seek their target and destroy it. That is why we have so much PTSD, which in the classic bait and switch is not being treated. Endless cycle.
