Rapture Ready in a tizzy again: teen listened to song "I Kissed A Girl"

I'm upset!!!!! Songs our kids are listening to!
I would have never caught on till my son was in the car with me today and turned it up in the car. I freaked and switched stations and gave him a talk about it. Have you heard this song? Kate Perry - I Kissed A Girl. I was even enjoying it till I figured it out, what it was about! My 14 year old son told me to chill and that I was over reacting and it meant nothing, just a cool tune.

Listen to the words, how you can be fooled. What kids are listening to on the radio to boot.
====

this is why my kids aren't allowed to listen to the radio. we have a cd player in the car, and it only plays contemp christian and secular stuff that is rated "g".

when my oldest was little (probably 10 yrs ago?) there was this song with the lyrics "follow me, everything is all right..i'll be the one to tuck you in at night...if you want to leave i can guarantee, you won't find nobody else like me". I can't remember the name or artist. one day my friend asked me if i realized what this was singing about and i was like, 'no, but its a nice tune'...it was talking about infidelity. i FREAKED OUT. from then on, the radio was off (and this was before i was a comitted christian) and the cd's or tapes went on!

can't trust anything..and the dangerous thing about MUSIC Is that it ingrains in your brain. heck, i can remember jingles from 1975 for goodness sakes. i don't want my kids mindlessly singing the junk that's out there!!

====

When I really re-committed to Jesus a number of years ago, no more listening to Country-Western music. And, we weren't listening to the newer artists. I'm talking about Ronny Milsap, Johnny Rodriquez, Alabama, and other of the older artists. Several years ago, I took ALL our C-W LPs out of the house and burned them. Just felt like I couldn't have them in the house because of the lyrics about getting drunk, or cheating, etc. Now, it's strictly Contemporary Christian or Southern Gospel, no Christian rock allowed!

====

The first song that stands out in my mind was "I Want Your S__" by George Michael in the mid 1980's.

Note: "I Want Your S__" ???? Hahahahaha
====

Yeah I was born in 84, my I remember in 1990ish my dad used to love that song, but would sing, "i want your socks"

====

This is so upsetting to me. I bought her self titled Christian CD when she was Katy Hudson and I really liked it. I had been wondering what had become of her. I am very disappointed and sad that she has chosen this path.

====

This is going on in my house too. My son (17) has this song on his ipod.
I have voiced my displeasure about this to him and his Dad....nothing was done. I also have some songs by AC/DC on my ipod because my husband wanted them...son has them. I listen to the ipod; my husband really doesn't so I don't know why he wanted it on there. I figure there is nothing I can do
anymore

====
I asked my 12 year old sister in law about this song after reading this thread and if she had heard it. She said yeah and that it was the number 1 song right now. She then proceeded to tell me that it was just about being gay and it was no big deal, that the singer is "just gay and likes girls instead." I nearly had a wreck (we were driving). I told her no, that being gay is wrong, and that just because it is so widely accepted it does not make it OK. She looked at me like I was weird and then said, oh, ok..
Wow.

====

My girlfriend is in love with this "I Kissed a Girl" song. Whenever she plays it, I go into the other room and play "Run" by Kutless real loud.

ANSWER: Do not marry her.

And you may want to prayerfully consider finding another girlfriend.

9. The single was released on April 30, 2008 by Capitol Records, and was produced by Dr. Luke.
This was never the way I planned
Not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion
It’s not what, I’m used to
Just wanna try you on
I’m curious for you
Caught my attention

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

No, I don’t even know your name
It doesn’t matter
Your my experimental game
Just human nature
It’s not what, good girls do
Not how they should behave
My head gets so confused
Hard to obey

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it
Ain’t no big deal, it’s innocent

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

37. I Got it confused with Jill Sobule's from the 95s...
Jenny came over and told me 'bout Brad
"He's such a hairy behemoth," she said
"Dumb as a box of hammers
But he's such a handsome guy."

And I opened up and I told her 'bout Larry
And yesterday how he asked me to marry
And I'm not giving him an answer yet...
I think I can do better!

So we laughed
Compared notes
We had a drink
We had a smoke
She took off her overcoat...
I kissed a girl.
I kissed a girl.

She called home to say she'd be late
He said he'd worried but now he'd feel safe
I'm glad your with your girlfriend
Tell her "hi" for me.

And then I looked at you, You had guilt in your eyes
But it only lasted a little while
And then I felt your hand above my knee.

And we laughed
At the world
They can have their diamonds
And we'll have our pearl...
I kissed a girl.
I kissed a girl.

I kissed a girl
Her lips were sweet.
She was just like kissing me
Kissed a girl won't change the world
But I'm so glad,
I kissed a girl!

(guitar riff)

And we laughed
At the world
They can have their diamonds and
We'll have our pearl.

I kissed a girl!
For the first time
I kissed a girl
And I may do it again!
I kissed a girl.
I kissed a girl.

I kissed a girl her lips were sweet,
She was just like kissin' me
But yeah, I kissed a girl.
Kissed a girl won't change the world
But I'm so glad I
Kissed a girl.
I kissed a girl.
I kissed a girl!.

40. I like this one better....
It's cute...

The newer one is, sad to say, just another contempory in your face song with some lyrics thrown on top of a beat.

3. Actually, I've been surprised there hasn't been more reaction like that
I figured the song was getting so much airplay because it falls into the "bound-to-piss-parents-off" category.

12. It's sad, too.
Parents need to just file away any 'news' about their child's sexual preference much like the time my own daughter told me that she liked honey over jelly on her peanut butter sandwiches. She still prefers that honey, too!
Honey isn't WORSE than jelly, merely a different compliment to the peanut butter..
Parents who freak on this need to assess exactly WHY that is any bearing on their love for their own..

17. I agree that it's sad, but the comment was somewhat intended at another level
Every generation (as another poster pointed out -- as far back as Elvis) does something that parents despise (generally because it's sexual). This song joins a long line of songs by artists ranging from Eminem to Prince to the The Rolling Stones, and dozens of others who sell records that kids love, but parents hate. It's probably the best money making guarantee in rock-n-roll.

4. I'm old enough to remember vividly the furious uproar over Elvis
and how his gyrating hips were going to turn American youth into sex-crazed maniacs.

There's nothing new under the sun, and never any shortage of those idiots who are outraged over what their kids are listening to.

"When I really re-committed to Jesus a number of years ago, no more listening to Country-Western music."

Yes, that evil, subversive country music. All about getting drunk and screwing around. NEVER any mention of Jesus or "family values". :sarcasm:

With all that's going on, that's what this woman is worried about? I heard the song "I Kissed a Girl" and it's cute. Total bubblegum. I remember in the 80's how they had to change George Michael's song "I Want Your Sex" to "I Want Your Love" on the radio. Yeah, I'm sure that made a big difference.

19. Absolute filth these days!
Give me a good Frank Zappa song any day:

Hey there, people, Im bobby brown
They say Im the cutest boy in town
My car is fast, my teeth is shiney
I tell all the girls they can kiss my heinie
Here I am at a famous school
Im dressin sharp n im
Actin cool
I got a cheerleader here wants to help with my paper
Let her do all the work n maybe later Ill rape her

Oh God I am the american dream
I do not think Im too extreme
An Im a handsome sonofabitch
Im gonna get a good job n be real rich

(get a good
Get a good
Get a good
Get a good job)

Womens liberation
Came creepin across the nation
I tell you people I was not ready
When I fucked this dyke by the name of freddie
She made a little speech then,
Aw, she tried to make me say when
She had my balls in a vice, but she left the dick
I guess its still hooked on, but now it shoots too quick

Oh God I am the american dream
But now I smell like vaseline
An Im a miserable sonofabitch
Am I a boy or a lady...i dont know which

(I wonder wonder
Wonder wonder)

So I went out n bought me a leisure suit
I jingle my change, but Im still kinda cute
Got a job doin radio promo
An none of the jocks can even tell Im a homo
Eventually me n a friend
Sorta drifted along into s&m
I can take about an hour on the tower of power
long as I gets a little golden shower

23. Here is a song that describes these Dimwits perfectly.

The night is black, without a moon.
The air is thick and still.
The vigilantes gather on
The lonely torchlit hill.

Features distorted in the flickering light,
Faces are twisted and grotesque.
Silent and stern in the sweltering night,
The mob moves like demons possessed.
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right,
Confident their ways are best.

The righteous rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will.
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill.

They say there are strangers who threaten us,
Our immigrants and infidels.
They say there is strangeness to danger us
In our theaters and bookstore shelves,
That those who know whats best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves.

Quick to judge,
Quick to anger,
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand.

I can't imagine growing up in a house like that. What a warped view of religion. That site in particular is simply a cult of death. I'm a Christian, and those people are the ones making a mockery of it. I do get a laugh from reading the site sometimes, but at another level, those folks terrify me with stuff like this...

me too, most of my attacks come from my very own children....all 4 of them...they are all grown and none of them are living right. you would not believe how horrible my husband and i have been treated in the last 3 yrs. i cry out to God daily...come Lord Jesus come..

What a shocker, right? Raise your kids in a completely restrictive environment and teach them that death is the greatest thing that will happen to them and show surprise when they rebel against it when they leave the home.

No kidding. My ex was raised in such an environment and figured since he was going to Hell anyway he might as well enjoy the journey.

Teaching your kids to pray for death and at the same time fear and welcome it is child abuse.

Listening to "Contemporary Christian" means they're spending money on albums and concert tix that are controlled by the same record companies that are also making money off that song. 42. I will give this person one smidgen of credit
She apparently has very strong feelings about all of this, but as far as I can tell, she's not trying to ban these songs that she finds so hateful and offensive. She's giving her opinion, but it doesn't seem to extend to "and everyone else in the world must agree with me or else."

47. Their board is called RAPTURE READY!!!!
Of course they're going to be pissed about that song... It's gotta be pretty difficult to be a fundy when all of the media around them goes against their beliefs... but making fun of them for it is like pushing and old man down the stairs.

The worst part about this is : HAVE YOU SEEN THE INCONSEQUENTIAL NONSENSE that DUers get outraged about over and over again? I see no difference between what those fundies wrote and all the goofy shit that DUers get all riled up about sometimes.

Jesus ass-eating Christ... this board IS going downhill.

That says as much about these wackos as the bad spelling and poor grammar. (it's 'til, not till)

55. Not Sure I Understand
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 10:37 AM by ProfessorGAC
My sister is 11 years younger than me, so when my wife and i were married in 1980, my wife had a 12 year old S-i-L. I was 23. My sister was 12.

That's why your post is confusing to me. What's the issue with a 12 year old sister-in-law?

51. Reminds me of my SIL.
Won't let her kids see Disney movies because they may contain dancing fire, whatever that means.

58. WTF - why isn't she monitoring the radio for what her kid listens to
Why is it the musicians fault (personally the song is a bit annoying but cute).
