Molasses spill shuts down Texas 6 at Southwest Freeway

Drivers heading to Sugar Land are facing a sticky situation — 5,000 gallons of molasses spilled from an overturned tanker truck onto a major highway.

And the mess won't be cleaned up for several hours, officials said.

The truck was northbound on Highway 6, turning onto the Southwest Freeway feeder road about 4:20 p.m. when the driver "took too wide of a turn and flipped over,"said city of Sugar Land spokeswoman Pat Pollicoff.

"There is no environmental problem, just healthy, all natural molasses," Pollicoff said.

Traffic was diverted from the intersection due to the spill, which is expected to be cleared about 10 p.m.

5. Crikey! What a mess
Probably less fun to clean up than this "spill" in Oz:

300 pigs stampede through town

Up to 300 pigs had a temporary reprieve from the abattoir when the truck carrying them overturned in Victoria's south-west yesterday.

"They were on their way to the abattoirs. They were eating people's gardens. You name it, they were doing it," Senior Constable Adam West said.

"The locals were trying to shoo them out of their gardens. They were eating rose bushes."

The porcine stampede through the streets of Hamilton kept local police and veterinarians from the Department of Primary Industries busy for more than three hours with the round-up.

There may be "one or two stragglers" but virtually all the pigs were accounted for by 11pm, Snr-Const West said.
