5. Of course they're rigged
The media has to do everything they can to turn this walkaway "race" into a horse race. Otherwise, what would all their millionaire pundits talk about? How could they justify all the WWF-like gab fest shows being produced? How could they sell advertising, especially the lucrative, full rate card cash-only-in-advance political ads?

But, most importantly, how could they give another election theft plausible deniability?

7. I think you're right on.
I don't pay attention to any polls any more as they are just another statistic that can be manipulated for a certain agenda.

6. Very rarely do candidates win nationally by more than a few points anymore
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 05:55 PM by ProudToBeBlueInRhody
I'd say if a candidate got 53% to 55% of the vote anymore, it would be considered a landslide.

Not to mention the fact, it's not those numbers that count.

8. I heard an interesting explanation this morning...
The "polls" being reported are only asking the question "Obama or McCain?". If you include candidates like Barr, Paul and Nader, then Obama's numbers surge ahead of McCain's. So, in other words, they only report what they WANT to report. And yes, I agree that a "close race" might allow for yet another stolen election.

9. I'm encouraged that he is ahead at all, in '04 it was close but Kerry was rarely ahead in the polls.

13. I agree. I think they're gaming us with gamed polls.
They want a horse race, and they're willing to fudge to give the appearance there is one.

Where are all these people that will vote for McCain, but don't show up anywhere, don't have any bumper stickers?

15. from 2006 msnbc/mcclatchy poll
Polls: GOP looks likely to keep Senate control

NEW YORK - Just days from the midterm elections, the final round of MSNBC/McClatchy polls shows a tightening race to the finish in the battle for control of the U.S. Senate. Democrats are leading in several races that could result in party pickups, but Republicans have narrowed the gap in other close races, according to Mason-Dixon polls in 12 states.

16. Ah, but the reasoning is far more insidious than you think.
People tend to vote for the perceived winner. Therefore, the loser is given a psychological boost if people can be convinced (s)he is the stronger candidate. The MSM is owned by the Republics and both have zero credibility. It follows that lying about McSame's chances wouldn't be beneath them - what is anymore?

And yes, Obama is leading by (at least) 15%, so these polls are complete BS.

BUSH OVERTAKES DUKAKIS IN A POLL

Published: August 23, 1988

LEAD: Vice President Bush overtook Michael S. Dukakis in popularity after the Republican National Convention even though many voters are skeptical of his running mate, Senator Dan Quayle of Indiana, according a CBS News Poll.

Vice President Bush overtook Michael S. Dukakis in popularity after the Republican National Convention even though many voters are skeptical of his running mate, Senator Dan Quayle of Indiana, according a CBS News Poll.

Over all, 46 percent of the registered voters in the survey said they would vote for Mr. Bush and Mr. Quayle if the election were held now; 40 percent said they would vote for the Democratic ticket of Michael S. Dukakis and Senator Lloyd Bentsen of Texas.

The survey of 1,282 registered voters has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points, as did a July 31-Aug. 3 New York Times/ CBS News Poll that gave Mr. Dukakis a 50 percent to 33 percent lead. The Power of Television

.......

in three weeks Dukakis went from a THIRTEEN point lead to a six point deficit.

think it can't happen again?

why not?

I watched what they did to Obama today on CNN and MSNBC. it's only going to get worse
