Fla. woman attacked by fox, then shot in the leg
MORRISTON, Fla. -Authorities say a Levy County man accidentally shot his wife while trying to hit a fox that had attacked her. The couple told deputies they had spotted an animal in their yard Friday morning and went outside to see what it was.
The fox bit the woman on the left leg and wouldn't let go, so she told her husband to get a gun.
The man fired a .22-caliber rifle seven times, killing the animal but also hitting his wife in the lower right leg.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment

2. Simple solution:
send HIM outside to see what the animal was. Let HIM get bit. SHE wouldn't have missed the shot. Unless he was a lousy husband. ;)

At the very least, he is a lousy shot. Pfft!

;)

3. Unusual behavior. I hope the fox was not rabid
Its good that they caught it so it could be tested.

14. My guess it's very well could be rabid.
Otherwise, it's a pretty strange behavior by a fox. I would think if the fox wasn't rabid, it would just run away.

10. She TOLD him to git tha gun!
He has to do as he's told or he'll be in the dog house.

Other than being a lousy shot, the fault seems to be hers. I mean she walked up to the fox in the first place didn't she?

They must be quite a pair!

I hope their friends and family tease them about this until the end of their days! :)

13. The fox was probably rabid. They needed to get it tested
Or she surely would have undergone rabies treatments without knowing for sure if the fox was rabid or not

BRIDGEWATER —

A 71-year-old woman attacked by what officials fear was a rabid fox Saturday night
and was rescued by a neighbor who held the animal down until help arrived.

The attack occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Edgewood Drive as the woman
was returning home from a walk.

“It grabbed me by the ankle first,” said Shirley Doyle. “I tried to beat it off of me.”

She was able to briefly get the fox off her ankle but it then grabbed her leg.

Her neighbor, Norman D. Millikan, heard her screams and ran to help.
He grabbed the fox by the tail and threw it toward the street.

“I expected it to run off, but it didn’t. It came back at me,” he said.

Eventually, he was able to pull the animal off and held it with his foot until
the ambulance and fire department arrived.

The fox was killed by firefighters at the scene and it will be tested for rabies.

Doyle is undergoing treatment for rabies as a precaution.
