Its Sunday morning and I am not going to church.

But I must say what one thing I am thankful for this week. I have to be honest, I am so thankful John Edwards did not get the nod for being the Democratic standard bearer in the upcoming election.

God Bless you Elizabeth, you will get through this, and John, you have a lot of making up to do to your family.

This could have been a real train wreck. Not only for us, but for the Edwards who would have had to have endured this so much more in the public eye.

I am sure it will be all the buzz of "talking head Sunday".

You know, sometimes we just get it right with who should be the head of the ticket.

edit for spelling

1. I haven't been to church in 40 years. But I agree about Edwards.
My question is, how could he run for president knowing this story was out there? That's just crazy.

2. I have thought about that also.
What gets in their heads, that they think these things will not come out in the long run. He had/has a great message. Maybe that was it. I haven't a clue myself

6. Possible answer...for the same reason people speed on the hwy
they don't expect to get caught. Edward's said so in his statement.

7. ~ROFL~

:) Not making an observation on morality. Hope I did not come across like that, just what was happening in my little personal view of the world.

11. Actually it had nothing to do with religion at all
Its just my conversation style, which reflects in my writing style no doubt. I will have to be more careful how I write things. I will have to watch that.

Morality can thrive apart from religion

Most Americans appear to be confident that religious faith is the primary source of virtuous behavior. A majority of Christians seem to assume that, at some time in the distant past, the biblical god revealed to our ancestors just what we needed to understand to be good moral citizens. The story about the Ten Commandments and other myths in the Bible illustrate how this may have happened.

Recent research suggests that we have been wrong, that morality can emerge and persist without religion. Evidence now points to the conclusion that early humans and prehumans were, long before religion started, predisposed to practice empathy, fairness and loyalty. In fact, these qualities are commonly found in bands of chimpanzees, and the normal behavior of very young children also reflects these attributes.

13. That's a fine, fine column, Mojorabbit. I'd almost go so far as to say, though...
... that morality can thrive DESPITE religion -- it seems more optimistic to me. Mind you, I do believe that morality is mostly a stick with which we beat others, never ourselves. Ethics is what it's all about, not morality.
