Should the media have changed the course of our history?
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 12:50 PM by dajoki
If the media was always the way it is now, can you imagine how our history would be changed? Let's start with JFK, we all know about his infidelities. Although people heard the rumors at the time, should his transgressions have been exposed so openly and lewdly as our politicians of today? How about FDR? Would we have been better of without the "New Deal"? And LBJ, no "Great Society"? For Heaven's sake, Thomas Jefferson had an affair with his slave and fathered a child with her!! And there are many, many more, I think you get my point.

I don't mean to condone any of them or John Edwards. What I'm getting at is was it right to give our former leaders a pass and is it now right to expose every detail of there personal lives just so they and their careers can be torn to shreds? Why not report it and move on? Remember move on? I'm just asking some questions here and would like to hear the opinions of my fellow DUers. By the way, I have been married to the same beautiful woman for 30 years and have never cheated. I'm not looking for praise, I just love my wife!!

1. The media is now about propaganda, not history.
It now has one agenda. Elect Republicans. It is the voice of Corporate America.

2. The media is now about profit. They'll do whatever it takes to keep the
bottom line healthy.

4. They are now fed the stories...
to report on. No more decent investigative journalism, that is done for them by the very people they should be covering and their cohorts.

3. the hyena media only chew over democratically elected
representatives- don't like or trust them. These guys all vote for bush/mcain/regan/nixon/goldwater etc. Nattering nabobs of negativity, unless it's gop (re: bush was charged with rape- his accuser 'committed suicide')

7. yep, for about the past three decades now........................... ............................
:eyes:

since the onslaught of media consolidation/deregulation/politicization/industrial complex..........

proof is on the front page of GD today, as DU wanks off to whatever the latests bloody meat tossed in the airwaves happens to be.

and people too dumbed down to protest being TOTALLY MANIPULATED, MISINFORMED AND MISDIRECTED.

Works every time.

8. And during that three decades...
they have proudly turned Ronald Raygun into a god, attempted to bring down one presidency while overlooking the crimes of another and knowingly lied and cheerled us into an illegal war. Just some high...I mean lowlights, there are many more examples.

9. You can blame the media, but it starts with the people. If there isn't an audience,
the media won't cover it. People eat this shit up with a spoon. (Which is one of the reasons I think Edwards should have known better)

12. The threat of...
being cut off from his family fortune by his mother is what prevented him from divorcing Eleanor, who was his fourth cousin. For almost their entire marraige they slept in seperate bedrooms.
