7. The Enquirer has gotten it right a couple of times. Not sure about the others.
BUT -- if this is true, wouldn't the Enquirer be covering it as well? (I think they may be more cautious because they've been sued so many times.)

16. The Edwards article had eyewitness accounts from reporters.
And included precise information about location and timing. These "Bush is drinking again" stories are based on "friends say..." type gossip or pseudo-gossip.

The Edwards story was instantly credible to anyone who was really thinking, since if not true it was easily disprovable. Edwards would have had a hell of a lawsuit and lots of public sympathy -- it would have probably been the end of the Nat'l Enquirer. Having already lost a major lawsuit, the NE simply wouldn't have taken that chance. The "drinking again"/"Laura has moved out" stories don't contain disprovable assertions and therefore aren't as credible.

9. National Enquier story "Bush's Booze Crisis"
From the National Enquirer itself and published on 9/21/2005. Talk about long standing rumors.

BUSH'S BOOZE CRISIS

By JENNIFER LUCE and DON GENTILE

Faced with the biggest crisis of his political life, President Bush has hit the bottle again, The National Enquirer can reveal.

Bush, who said he quit drinking the morning after his 40th birthday, has started boozing amid the Katrina catastrophe.

Family sources have told how the 59-year-old president was caught by First Lady Laura downing a shot of booze at their family ranch in Crawford, Texas, when he learned of the hurricane disaster.

His worried wife yelled at him: "Stop, George."

Following the shocking incident, disclosed here for the first time, Laura privately warned her husband against "falling off the wagon" and vowed to travel with him more often so that she can keep an eye on Dubya, the sources add.

10. Nope.. she has too much of her life "invested' in the Bush family
Edited on Wed Aug-13-08 10:35 AM by SoCalDem
She's waiting to cash in.. Divorcing him now would not be in her best interests.. She'll live her own life and still be married to him.. An ex-First Lady has more cachet, than the ex-wife of a failed president.:)

She made her deal with the devil..she'll hang in there:)

15. I think she should be rewarded with millions of $ for waiting. What would be
absolutely a disaster is if he took revenge and would not allow alimony. He is all about revenge. It is at the core of his being. It's his common trait to Cheney, He couldn't even air his relationship with his father with grace and restraint. Or class.

21. He's clearly out of control drinking again, and she's had enough
Can't blame her.

I believe she may not divorce him after he leaves office, but she won't live with him or be seen with him often then.

23. After all we've learned about him, how could we NOT believe this?
"If you don't do ___, I'll do ___."

Having to put up with the petulance of a lifelong spoiled brat who has been conditioned to get everything he wants, regardless of how he screws up, must be like living in hell. And she has a mean & vicious mother-in-law who is just as controlling. No wonder Laura looks like a robot.

I believe it.
