Source: Huffington Post

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell will endorse Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention, Weekly Standard Publisher Bill Kristol told FOX News exclusively on Thursday.

1. His reputation is tarnished, but I'll take it.
There are still a lot of moderates in the country who still respect Powell.

15. He has one of the highest favorability ratings among Americans of any political personality
I heard that somewhere a while back. It wouldn't surprise me.

Powell's a dick and a war criminal, but if it helps Obama, that's cool.

16. If correct, his ratings show just how fucked-over we are as a society.

2. Powell spokeswoman denies it, according to the linked Fox News report
Powell spokeswoman Peggy Cifrino strongly denied the report.

“There’s absolutely no truth to it whatsoever,” Cifrino told FOXNews.com. “Colin Powell will not be at either convention. There’s absolutely no truth to this.”

6. I was hoping Kristol would be right for once
I'm still mad at Powell for capitulating, but his endorsement would be a good one to pick up.

Breaking: Colin Powell To Endorse Barack Obama
by Jack Ryan

Colin Powell is set to endorse Barack Obama, according to a FOXNews exclusive. Let's not elect our next president on just the color of his skin. Let's make sure he is qualified.

“Colin Powell, what are you thinking? While This might be the right time for us to think about, and maybe elect, a black president.

I'm fairly certain that with Barack Obama's background of 20 years of listening to Rev. Wright's preaching, he is not qualified.

"He may well give a speech at the Democratic convention explaining his endorsement of Obama," The Weekly Standard Publisher Bill Kristol said, citing inside sources. "For whatever reason I think he has decided he’s going to endorse Obama. I think has a high respect for Senator McCain, they go back a long way."

Kristol continued, "This is not an absolute done deal, but these people are very confident that Powell will endorse Obama."

Kristol also stated that sources told him Powell will "quite possibly" speak at the Democratic convention on the same night as Obama's vice-presidential selection and former President Bill Clinton.

"The Obama people are quietly trying to line up a pretty strong convention," Kristol was quoted by FOX as saying. "I think the Obama campaign shouldn’t be underestimated. Obviously anyone would like to have Powell’s endorsement."

5. OMG This is going to move a large group of Republicans to Obama
Seriously

I know a lot of Republicans who respect Powell, even today. These are folks that are against Iraq, but voting for McCain (currently).

These folks are the Retired military folks.

14. I've seen it mentioned at DU
I'm agreeing with you. It would be a very bad choice not only because he is a Repuke, but because he aided in Bush war crimes.

18. With all due respect ...
While Powell did feed the world a line of bull, he DID NOT "let" the invasion, GITMO or Abu Graib happen. The role of the SOS is to advise the administration and diplomacy
But that said, this raises an intriguing scenario ... an Obama/Powell administration. This pairing would forever shut-down McCain "He doesn't have the foreign/military affairs experience" non-argument, even for the most partisan, but disaffected, repub.

But then again, it would increase the "Fear of Black Factor" exponentially.
