CNN looks to double domestic news operations
CNN will put new news bureaus in 10 U.S. cities as it seeks to double its domestic newsgathering operations, parent company Time Warner Inc. reported.

The new operations will be in Columbus, Ohio; Denver; Houston; Las Vegas; Minneapolis, Minn.; Orlando, Fla.; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; and Seattle. CNN already has bureaus in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

The new bureaus will employ a mix of traditional general assignment reporters with CNN "show-based correspondents," plus “all-platform journalists,” who will combine new technologies with traditional journalism for all CNN networks and services.

Hmmm...I wonder if this will mean an improvement in their coverage?

3. They may have doubled their "news" operations, but not their *news* operations!

6. Definition Of A News Bureau
One reporter and a producer/cameraman with a satellite uplink. But it's better than nothing. There's a Chicken Noodle Nuze bureau here in Chicago that is pretty much that. Several years ago I met their reporter and asked how big the Chicago staff was, she pointed to the camerman and said, "we're it and we cover about 500 miles of turf". Most of the stories were "human interest" or tracing down dead blondes and natural disasters. But again, after years of cutting back, this should be noted as an improvement.
