Are there any pro-choice women who would actually vote for him?

18. Wrong...he'll likely be able to appoint 2-3 Supreme Court justices, so
Roe v. Wade could certainly be overturned if McCain is elected.

Any pro-choice woman - or man - who votes for him --- naw, it can't happen. It just can't.

Can it?

and the life of the Mother

13. He supported that POS?
I know he's a whore of the first order, but I can never quite get my head around how perfect he is.

How come the evangelicals aren't holding him to their collective, insane bosoms?

10. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've seen this movie before
Threatening Roe v. Wade is their meal-ticket.

They'd never actually DO it or it would have been DONE BEFORE.

With a majority in the House and Senate and a STACKED USSC, they chose to do.........Nothing.

just like their approval of alito and roberts

When they realize that serving their GOP masters instead of their leadership will actually cost them power and prestige.

because we cannot depend on Congress

17. uh, wrong. really wrong and sadly stupid.
All it would take is 2 Thomas/Scalia/Roberts/Alito clones, and Roe would be history. And if you think nothing has been done over the past decade to cripple Roe, you know nothing.

20. If you put it that way
Yes, Roe v. Wade MIGHT be threatened in such a scenario.

HOWEVER, it would take a MAJOR upheaval in the court to overturn R v. W. The Supreme Court has always been loathe to overturn such specific decisions.

And yes, Roe is crippled, but the fundamentals still stand.

23. The SC has indeed overturned specific decisions
Furthermore, if you don't think that Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Roberts would overturn Roe, you are sadly mistaken.

19. Every Republican has to say that, just as every Democrat has to

promise to preserve Roe. Don't pay any attention.

It's a wedge issue used by both parties to get their base to vote.

Some suckers on both sides were sure Reagan would overturn Roe and it was absolutely essential to vote for or against him, depending.

Same for Bush I and Bush II. Roe still stands, despite them appointing justices to SCOTUS.

Only SCOTUS can overturn Roe, and they have turned down abortion cases they might have used to do so.
