Thoughts on the USA's health "care" system
---

I just want something accessible and affordable that provides complete insurance for any possible long term illness or hospital visit due to an accident.

I have the opportunity to retire at 55 but my wife has a genetic heart condition that no insurance company would touch much less a monthly price that we could afford.

Heath care in the USA is fast becoming a luxury for the wealthy.
Many illnesses such as heart issues, under our current system, allow for people to go bankrupt and/or die.

Retiring at 55 would allow others to move up where I work and times that by the 100's of thousands in my shoes I think would be a boost to our economy.

The current system is rigged for us to all work until 65 or move to another country.
Which we are looking into.

1. The inability to purchase individual health insurance because of
pre-existing conditions keeps too many people over age 50 from leaving employer provided group health plans and retiring early or becoming entrepreneurs and I am one of them! Ten years ago, I considered purchasing a sandwich shop near the proposed site of an athletic arena. I applied for individual health coverage with five popularly advertised insurance companies, received 3 rejections, 1 50% premium up-charge, and 1 with a cancer exclusion, all because I was diagnosed and treated for cancer over two decades earlier! No self-employment for me.

2. Our system is rigged and...
...I wish younger people (at least the ones at my workplace) would realize that soon they will face this dilemma of having to work until Medicare kicks in.

6. Very good observation.

I am not against health care providers earning a profit. But the insurance companies have absolutely no business dictating health care policy.

3. Healthcare in the U.S.
k&r. We need single-payer healthcare now. 273 people die each day because they don't have access to healthcare they need. Where are the so-called "pro-lifers" on this? </sarcasm>

4. I ask those who defend our system this:
---

What other industrialized countries want our health payment system?
Which ones want ours instead?

5. "The current system is rigged for us to all work until 65..."
WRONG! The current system (and what preceded it) values only cannon fodder.
If you're not up to that, you should die for the good of the country, that's
what the "health care" system is rigged for.
