1. Somehow I don't think you will get a lot of people who will agree
that Hershey's chocolate is crap. Last time I checked the price of nearly all food was going up.

2. There is no solution.
Hershey's -- and other companies -- have to raise their prices because they're paying more for ingredients (parts, whatever). Our wages don't increase 13%, so we don't buy the Hershey's - can't afford it any more. Hershey's sales go down, they buy less from their suppliers, the suppliers need to cover their increased costs so they raise their prices again --

There's no end to this. No solution. This is affecting every aspect of our economy and lifestyle.

I don't know how we're going to survive.

10. Those would probably be considered delicacies by those who have been
reduced to eating dirt.

21. Well, not really.
Cocoa, in 13 ton lots sold on the commodities exchange, has been going down in price. I suspect that this is simply a naked ploy to goose stock price, thus making major stockholders like the executives a whole lot richer.

3. Dairy, sugar and fuel prices have all increased.
Albeit dairy and sugar are probably due to the fuel prices. It's all interconnected. Companies can't afford to stay in business unless they raise their prices. Price fixing by BIG Sugar and the oil companies needs to be addressed also.

People will not give up their endorphine rush. They will pay what the market will bear.

7. People will adjust their priorities for their "drug of choice."
Besides, a 13% increase will not price Hershey's chocolate beyond the reach of the chocolate consuming public. The higher priced premium stuff may take a hit, but the rest will still be bought by the ton.

Then what?

11. DTs I guess. Buying chocolate is not a right.
The cheaper private label bars made by Hershey will see a spike in sales. People who don't know how private labeling works will buy other forms of chocolate to get their fix (cheap little cakes and cookies).

9. My drug of choice has to take a hit if it comes down to sugar or needing that
dollar or two to pay my electric bill. It's getting to that point.

12. That's a screwed up reality in this economy.
Have you signed up for budget billing or other accomodations provided by your local utility? They might work with you on this. I'm not sure, but I think the major players are required by law to help those on fixed or lower incomes.

6. Gourmet chocolate bars going for 7.00+
I went to our local gourmet store yesterday and perused their chocolate wall.

Full sized imported bars were going for about 7-8 dollars/bar. :wow: The mini versions were about $4.

Previously a full sized bar would have been about 3-4 dollars and the mini bar about $1.

Luckily the house brand dark chocolate was on sale 2 for 1 at 2.99, so I stocked up.

So, don't blame it all on Hershey.

15. Heard they were planning to
don't know if they actually got it up and running, though.

Looks like whatever savings they hoped to achieve with low cost labor will be wiped out with more expensive ingredients.

27. I just noticed that.
We had a Festival of Nations yesterday, and the Germany tent was selling chocolate bars for .50 cents each. I asked them where they got 'em, and they told me Aldi's.

Time to stock up.
