1. I doubt the attribution of the quote to Lenin
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 12:35 PM by JVS
His death in 1924 greatly limited his exposure to Fascism. It sounds more like something that Trotsky or Stalin would have said.

5. You're absolutely correct to doubt

It is extremely difficult to verify a quotation's authenticity these days.

On edit: This is the closest thing to an actual reference containing those words, and it is not Lenin who said it:

From here: http://books.google.com/books?id=vmXRGV33FLIC&pg=PA219&lpg=PA219&dq=Fascism+is+capitalism+in+decay.&source=web&ots=f0Jgnd6Clw&sig=RA_Xa9fccZHvbe1dPpyfWzx7onU&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=7&ct=result

The main problem is that somebody puts up a bad quotation on the Internet, and somebody else uses it, and so on, until the thing is everywhere.

2. "Capitalists are no more capable of self-sacrifice..."
"...than a man is capable of lifting himself up by his own bootstraps."
