His wife (Carol) was silenced because she has lifelong health issues, due to her car accident. When John unceremoniously dumped her for his Courtesan/Rodeo Queen/Millionairette, part of the divorce settlement (probably a BIG part) was guaranteed lifetime health care for her.

No doubt, the Hensley fortune has paid out a lot of money on her behalf over the years, and will pay a lot more as she ages. This "generosity" probably came with a lot of strings..like KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT..and keep those 3 brats from saying bad shit about Daddy, or you go on medicaid.

It probably also had a "re-marriage" clause in it, since I can't find any indication that she ever remarried..

It's highly possible that she had to trade health care, for a chance at a new life, post-divorce.

Her health needs have kept her tied to him and his Hensley connections because there was no other way for her to get quality health care...and the price she paid was to swallow all the indignity, and always say what a great guy he was..
