Poll question: Where is DU's Emergency Preparedness Forum?
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 04:34 PM by ColbertWatcher
Tropical Storm Fay slapped Florida around like it was the wife of an angry Arizona Senator being reminded that he isn't a youthful POW with a full head of hair anymore. Gustav is bearing down like an angry former POW desperate for attention.

And we've got three more months of this.

Where oh where is the emergency preparedness forum that was discussed a few months ago?

1. Rec this thread!!!!! We've been working for an E/P forum for a long time.
It'll probably get buried in the Convention stuff, but great job keeping this alive!

16. Good one!
I'm very sorry if you really were a POW, btw. I swear, lately, it seems we are all prisoners of this run amok country.

11. Completely different animal.
The proposal is (and has been for a while) to set up a forum to discuss ways of being prepared for emergencies...local, regional or global.

Whether it's a tornado, a flood, a power outage, a blizzard...or global economic collapse, there's a discussion to be had about ways to prepare.

5. I prefer emergency preparation to remain in GD and both hurricane
and tornado warnings should stay here. I think DUers are better served with Emergencies remaining in GD.
Perhaps you can add one more option to your poll - are DUers better served with Emergency preparation and warnings about hurricanes, TDs, tornadoes remaining in GD.

6. I agree.
I think more folks will se it in GD and a couple of threads is enough.
If a hurricane is about to hit you - maybe it's time to get off of DU.....

8. This wouldn't be an "alert system"...it'd be a discussion of ways to prepare for emergencies.
Not "reaction", but "preparation".

13. There's a huge knowledge base here...there's just no single place to discuss these issues.
...that's the proposal.

9. GD will never replace local weather for up-to-the-minute info.
An Emergency Preparedness forum will give us a place to keep all preparedness threads in one place. Instead of having to pick through GD threads for pertinent info.

21. Info could still be posted in GD.
To keep the general public informed. But a forum would be good for targeted discussion and the folks who need the info at their fingertips could find it much more easily than sifting through a million GD threads. I mean, there's media forum, a GLBT forum, a labor forum, etc., but people still post about those topics in GD.

24. I agree...
Trying to refer back to a GD thread after more than a couple of days is painful. A timely reminder to folks where the forum is would get the job done, and allow for some more in-depth discussion where it's needed.

19. Everything you learn about protecting yourself from a fire ...
... could be posted in the EP and someone could learn from it.

That's all I'm saying.

29. Did anyone submit a proposal, agreed upon mission statement to admin?
I know there was a proposal last month, with enough people, but did anyone get a mission statement written; agreed on, submitted? If they did, I missed it but I've been gone a bunch lately. HEre is link to Hurricane Survivor's forum. Anyone want to get it going again? Add info, links, helpful info, where to go, if you can help, etc? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=360
