DU: More Women than Men?
What do you think? As for me (male) I believe that it's about even.

So in the interest of this inquiry place "female" or "male" in your subject line but only the first time too.

I'd do this as a poll but those are so unreliable these days;)

11. "More girls than boys"
I hope that DU is in the "women and men and everyone else" mode.

I talked to a NY buddy tonight; she's cold so she's going to Atlantic City for some respite. :wtf:  It's better than driving upstate NY to the 'cabin'; the one with the out house. Really!

27. I would agree with her.
For some reason, getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and having hypothermic convulsions never really appealed to me.

But AC? Get a block west of the casinos and it looks like an atmospheric nuclear testing site. Without the charm.

Not to say curmudgeons don't fulfill a very important function online.

9. I'd say more male but it may depend on what time you are reading
I check DU throughout the day and it seems there are more female posters in the morning until about noon. In the afternoon and evenings it's more males. Least that's what it seems to me. Then again, a lot of DUers don't really make their gender known so who knows?

Edited on Sun Mar-11-07 12:16 AM by givemebackmycountry
That's right, the woman is smarter
That's right, the woman is smarter
That's right, the woman is smarter
Smarter than a man in every way...

So, I'm hoping there's more women here than men.
But, what do I know.
I also like the song...

"No woman, no cry"

22. I found the lyrics - by Brit rocker, Robert Palmer
Edited on Sun Mar-11-07 01:15 AM by Divernan
Let us put man and woman together
And see which one is smarter
Some say man, but I say no
The woman got the man like a puppet show

It ain't me, it's the people that say
The men are leadin' the women astray
But I say that the women today
Are smarter than man in every way
Well that's right, the women are smarter
That's right, the women are smarter

Little boy sat down and cried
An old man passin' asking him why, he said
I can't do what the big boys do
Old man sat down and he cried too

Ain't me, it's the people that say
The men are leadin' the women astray
But I say, that the women today
Are smarter than man in every way

That's right, the women are smarter
That's right, the women are smarter

That's right, the women are smarter
That's right, the women are smarter

Well that's right, the women are smarter
Smarter than man in every way

Robert Palmer
British rock singer Robert Palmer released his first solo album, Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley, in 1974, and went on to become an ’80s icon thanks to his sharp suits and slick videos. His hit singles “Simply Irresistible” and “Addicted to Love” won him two Grammys for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, while the video for “Addicted to Love” received heavy rotation on MTV. In 1985 he joined Power Station—a side project that also included John Taylor and Andy Taylor of Duran Duran—and helped them score the three Top 10 U.S. hits: “Communication,” “Some Like It Hot” and T. Rex cover “Get It On.” Palmer never again saw the heights he enjoyed during the ’80s, but did continue to put out material on a regular basis; his last album, Drive, was released in May 2003. Palmer died later that year on September 26.

23. Here are Belafonte's lyrics from the 1950s
I'm dating myself, but I purchased my first Belafonte album around 1960.

Harry Belafonte - Man Smart (Woman Smarter) Lyrics

I say let us put man and a woman together
To find out which
one is smarter
Some say man but I say no
The woman got
the man de day should know

And not me but the people
they say
That de man are leading the women astray
But I
say, that the women of today
Smarter than the man in every
way
That’s right de woman is uh smarter
That’s right de
woman is uh smarter
That’s right de woman is uh smarter,
that’s right, that’s right

Ever since the world
began
Woman was always teaching man
And I you listen to
my bid attentively
I goin’ tell you how she smarter than
me

Samson was the strongest man long ago
No one
could a beat him, as we all know
Until he clash with Deliah
on top of the bed
She told them all the strength was in the
hair of his head

You meet a girl at a pretty
dance
Thinking that you would stand a chance
Take her
home, thinking she’s alone
Open de door you find her husband
home

I was treating a girl independently
She was
making baby for me
When de baby born and I went to
see
Eyes was blue it was not by me

Garden of Eden
was very nice
Adam never work in Paradise
Eve meet
snake, Paradise gone
She make Adam work from that day
on

Methusaleh spent all his life in tears
Lived
without a woman for 900 years
One day he decided to have
some fun
The poor man never lived to see 900 and one

25. Thanks. I thought what I found was missing something.
I got to hear/see Belafonte perform live one magical summer night at the outdoor, under-the-stars Greek Theatre in the hills of Los Angeles in the early 60's. It's like an ampitheatre, and in back of the last row of seats were some tall trees, where some people perched for free seating, so to speak. Belafonte kept up a running commentary to those he dubbed "The Tree People". Most of the show was performed with a full orchestra, but the song I loved the most that night was when he sang Scarlet Ribbons, a capella. All's right with the world when such a thoroughly decent man is blessed with such a magnificent voice.

26. Get Belafonte's "Belafonte At Carnegie Hall" album or CD.
Don't ruin this music by downloading a piece of shit MP3. It's his best sounding recording and a classic. Limited edition vinyl goes for hundreds of dollars. The CD ain't bad either, just not as good as the vinyl on a quality turntable.

32. I don't know HOW to download MP3 - but I do have one of his LP vinyl albums
don't remember the title - I have it packed away. Also have some great 45's - Bill Haley (Rock Around the Clock), Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, etc. from the 50's.

34. Some of his early LPs were poorly recorded and mastered.
The Carnegie Hall concert is the exception.

Downloading music is easy. Even old farts like me can do it. Maybe you should check into iTunes.

Do you have any of that old 50s stuff on the original Sun label. If so, they're worth some money.

33. I got to hear him there too--was taken by a friend of my mom's that I was visiting
Gods he was a delicious singer. I still have vinyl LPs.

I was only 13, and these two mom-aged (but still young from my perspective now) women took me along to the concert. Very educational -- on the way home, one said to the other "He can put his shoes underneath my bed any time."

He really did interact with the audience a lot -- held them in the palm of his hand, as my mom described it.

Nice memory.

Hekate
