We do have BuKu natural gas and it is cheaper to burn and much cleaner. Alaska is in the process of building a Natural Gas Pipeline to the continental USA which will provide a large supply of clean burning fuel to ease us off foreign/all oil until we can harness the multitude of alternatives out there. We burn propane gas in our fork lifts inside our warehouse and they put out no noticeable exhaust fumes. I know they are not perfect but they sure as hell beat gasoline. We could not use them at all indoors with gasoline. It is very easy to convert gasoline engines to natural gas and mainstream Democrats have been behind this for quite some time now..It makes sense, which makes me wonder what has gotten in to Pickens. He is as right wing as they come and I have not often known any of them to ever truly make sense..It must be a Profit thing...

4. I fully realize Pickens isn't acting out of generosity
However, CNG cars (easy technology available right now) make a helluva lot more sense than more drilling. No sane person opposes wind energy.

5. Pickens' plan is poor.

Doesn't matter if you like him or not, his "plan" has some *serious* problems.

First off, while he endorses "wind & solar" to pick up the slack, "natural gas" is only slightly better than burning oil. Sure it's cleaner, but you must burn far more NG to get the same power you get from gasoline. And you CAN'T use NG in big-rigs (not powerful enough), the most polluting of all vehicles on the road. They must continue to burn diesel.

8. I agree totally...
I don't trust him and he probably does have ulterior motives. Nevertheless we need to have a bridge to green energy that frees us from our dependence on foreign oil.

If his plan works and he ends up richer than he already is...so what. If it isn't the best plan, now that he has introduced his ideas maybe some other bright individual will step up to the plate with a different approach.

One thing is for sure, the people we elect to represent this country have done nothing to solve the energy problem since the oil crisis of the 70's. All they've done to produce a lot of hot air which unfortunately can't be used as an alternate energy source.

10. No we don't trust him....
And there are lots of better proposals on the table. The only function is ads serve in my opinion is to help bring the right to the center when he makes statements like "we can drill our way out of this this" and when he refers to the largest transfer of wealth to non-friendly contries like Saudi Arabia and Iran. Hopefully this raises some awareness.
