ABRAMOFF: DOJ seeks reduced sentence for "significant and useful" cooperation
DOJ seeks reduced sentence for Abramoff in D.C. corruption case
The Crypt @ politico.com

August 27, 2008 - Federal prosecutors are seeking a reduced sentence for imprisoned GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff in a Washington, D.C., corruption case, citing his "significant and useful" cooperation against other individuals involved in the scandal.... seeking only a 64-month sentence ... far less than the minimum 108 months behind bars he could have received under federal sentencing guidelines. Abramoff ... is already serving a 70-month prison term in a Florida fraud case ...

The Washington Post is reporting that Abramoff "would serve no more than another three years and three months in prison, not accounting for credit for good behavior awarded by the Bureau of Prisons," ....

Abramoff's assistance to DOJ and FBI investigstors "has exposed significant misconduct by others in and out of public office and revealed to law enforcement officials and the public the manner and means used by government officials to game the system for private advantage in violation of criminal, regulatory, and ethical laws and rules," prosecutors said in a pre-sentencing memo filed today.

According to Abramoff's attorney. their client has spent more than 3,000 hours meeting with more than 100 federal investigators......

2. Isn't that special...? Let him stew over what he has done. Now, if he wants to go a little
higher up in the White House, they should consider letting him out early. Otherwise, no.

DOJ = politization of the judicial process.

6. If I was Obama's AG, here's what I'd do...
Because of whom Jack Abramoff is and the company he keeps, I know he's got enough dirt on enough Republicans to fill a dump truck.

And, quite frankly, if I had to choose I would rather have Bush, Cheney and Rove sitting in federal PMITA prison than Abramoff in Club Fed. So...I would exchange a pledge to get a straight job and dirt on various federal officials for time...knock a year off for Rove, another 18 months for Cheney and completely remove his prison time for Bush.

7. These news reports are paving the way for his pardon
Bush gets to say "he cooperated" and then sign his name to free the bastard.

10. Unfortunately, you're right
It's too bad the Congress can't vote to suspend Bush's power of pardon. He's going to wear out a whole skid of laser printers by the time he's pardoned everyone he's going to.

Friends: Abramoff a changed man, deserves leniency
MATT APUZZO – 18 minutes ago - AP - http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gdPvcldKBJEceVBe_-4UMZBau-ZgD92RDJTG0

WASHINGTON (AP) — It used to be, when Jack Abramoff needed something, he had an address book full of powerful Capitol Hill contacts to call on, people he plied with expensive meals, campaign contributions and golf junkets.

Now that the disgraced lobbyist is asking people to stand by his side while he seeks a reduction in his prison sentence, the list of supporters has changed. The congressmen, Bush administration figures and aides have given way to family members, friends and religious leaders.

Defense attorneys filed 95 letters in court Wednesday night as part of a bid to get Abramoff out of prison early. They describe him as a humbled, changed man whose family is suffering and nearly broke after his first 18 months in prison. ......

9. this is sickening.
they have to get him out before a real doj takes over. we should be harping all over this and adding the tie in to john mccain/reed/greenberg-traurig (however you spell that). this could be a nice political ad during the rnc convention. they could show how repubs were and are connected to this bullcrap.
