Despicable email I received from 'RedState'. this is how GOP wins election
Are Dems willing to wallow in the mud like this to win? (probably not).

I got this email from Redstate a few minutes ago:

For two days RedState has been at the Democratic Convention trying to find American flags.

Sure, when the television cameras come on for prime time network coverage, the Democrats have been passing out flags like candy.

But when the prime time lights are not on, and for the entire time Tuesday night, including during prime time, there have been no American flags: not in the crowd, not on the stage, not in the hallways -- nowhere.

Well, we finally found some American flags.

They were in the trash.

Let's skip, for a minute, that this is supposed to be an environmentally friendly campaign and the flags were thrown in with paper, plastic, food, and other junk. Ignore that.

Just focus on this: The Democrats only pulled out the flags for prime time Monday night and Wednesday night. They have otherwise avoided all displays of the American flag.

After Wednesday night, they threw them in the trash.

Sincerely yours,

Erick Erickson
Editor, RedState.com

1. Wow!
And the bag is wide open with the flag sitting right on top. How amazingly convenient for RedState!

5. There are several in that bag...
so there is a possibility that people threw them out

And it does not matter, WHO put it there. This will cost some votes

34. I've read all your posts in this thread
You've missed one point: the folks that are likely to give this any weight are already devoted to McCain. That isn't "patriotism", that's "nationalism".

Any one likely to swing our way is concerned about issues, not symbols and trinkets.

29. Reminds me of the anti-choice propaganda shot from several years back of the trash can full of baby
dolls with their stiff little legs sticking straight up in the air. This spectacle of carnage had been secretly photographed in an abortion clinic, we were told. Shame on us.

35. Are all American Flag sacred?
So when my son weres out his American Flag t-shirt and it's gets all worn and filled with holes and stains, am I suppose to string it up on a pole and salute it every morning

Hey anyone know what happens to all the American flag people use to fly after 9/11?

And what about the flags for 4th of July, why do we have to buy new flags every year?

just curious

2. This may be a small point for you
but in reality they have a point... throwing the flags in the trash is not a good idea...

There are multiple levels to this

And yes, it will cost some votes.

Yes, it is a piece of cloth, probably in this case plastic, but there're things you don't do when you know somebody will look for reasons not to vote for you.

Oh and this is a major point for some folks in flyover country

8. But are the photos real? And do they show what they're purported to show?
Heck, Dubya himself was swatting his bored knee with a flag during the Olympics--how'd the flyover folks like that one?

It's sad, but you're probably right--these issues of minimal substance really do strike an emotional chord with some voters.

outside of Oberman did you see it anywhere?

How much do you want to bet this will be on... oh Newsmax within 24 hours

24. Not the point, the people who's buttons will be pushed
CARE about the flag code a little too much...

Dubyah violated the flag code.

(and in case anybody needs translation these photos are directed at that group)

That said, this is the same group that uses flag napkins for the fourth of july, or jackets in the form of the flag, but that is a whole different discussion... one I had with one of them at a recent fourth of july. He was decrying liberals this and that over the flag... I refused his napkins... and paper plates, you guessed it.

18. Again does not matter.... and unless YOU HAVE proof this is staged
it does not matter.

To some folks SEEING a flag in the trash, or burning... CONFIRMS ideas... and some of them who might have been on the fence, will NOT ever vote for somebody based on this in November

This is about image.

They got it... they have it... it will play

it ended up with rest of swept up leavings.

End of story.

30. I am sick of worrying
about yahoo's that don't give a shit about this country and care only to keep their long held prejudices alive. Their minds will not be changed, they will seek every opportunity to spread their message of hate, and if they are the deciding factor in this election it reflects who 'we the people' really are.

and the clean up crews just swept everything up. Or Redstate put them there and took the picture.

16. No matter what we say or do, it would have been easy to plant those there
for a photo op. As with any large venue event, I'm sure flags, streamers, signs, etc. were left laying around like old popcorn containers. Just hit them back with the pic of Bush walking on the flag rug or autographing the flag. Those were definitely not planted.

Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 01:03 PM by JHB
Someone make a note to photograph the condition the Republicans leave flags after their convention.

I have little doubt it'll look a whole lot worse than the photo on the OP. About as little as I doubt Redstate will show nary the slightest concern over it.

28. What does Redstate propose?
That once a person picks up a flag to wave, they NEVER put it down, never discard it (if disposable plastic type), hold it in their hand until the DAY THEY DIE???

Republicans seriously need to get a grip. There are just as many flags discarded at Republican events. Probably more.

31. Yeah, well his hero Shrub AUTOGRAPHED an American flag
and a whole heck of a lot of the 'patriotic' displaying of the flag that goes one is actually flag desecration:

* wearing it on a T-shirt or other clothing (or, like at Sturgis, a bikini!)
* used in advertising (!)
* displayed tattered (like the beat up ones flying from so many car antennas)
* left out at night or in the rain

My grandfather was in the Navy and took the proper care and display of the flag VERY seriously.
