Fox: Bush might not speak at RNC on Monday because of Gustav.»
Source: Think Progress

President Bush is scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention on Monday, but with Tropical Storm Gustav expected to hit Gulf coast, the White House is beginning to hint that President Bush might not speak that day. Fox News’ Bret Baier reports today that there “are conversations underway” at the White House about whether Bush “will in fact speak on Monday

4. But if he DOESN'T show up...
...that will point the media's attention to the hurricane itself, and away from the Convention.

That would be nice.

25. Oh, what a sticky wicket!!!!
If Bushie shows up and gives McCain a big ol hug (and maybe a little tongue action like Britney and Madonna), people will associate McCain with the worst *Resident ever, and that could hurt....

OTOH, if the two don't get all poopydoopyhuggywuggy, but only do a perfunctory handshake instead, people will say McCain is trying to distance himself from Bush, and that could hurt with the idiots people who still think Bush shits long-stemmed roses.

If I were the GOP, I'd send Bushie down to the Gulf before the hurricane hit and hope he got washed out to sea or something. I mean, who would notice?

41. You noticed that too!

I often thought if a movie was made of Mahler's life (other than the Ken Russell work), Gregory Peck would have made a convincing Mahler:

Gustav is "good stuff!" :)

39. It's Mahler! One of my fave composers!
I still have one of his symphonies to listen to all the way through. They are lengthy.

40. Funny. I've been listening to Mahler for some 35 years now...
And I've only come to know the odd-numbered symphonies (1, 3, 5, 7, 9). I have yet to listen in detail to his even-numbered symphonies (2, 4, 6, 8). I guess developing a knowledge of his music takes a lifetime! :)

They are lengthy.--I believe his Third Symphony is in the Guinness Book or World Records of having the longest movement of any symphony written. It's about 45 minutes long.

42. Back in the olden days when I was content to lie on a couch
( after finishing my college assignments) and just LISTEN to music I listened to Mahler and got up as far as five symphonies I knew pretty well but I knew the song cycles better and whenever I hear Wunderhorn I am taken back 45 years to much much more glad time and it really was Wonder. Now I am too occupied by other things to hear a whole Mahler symphony at a time. I guess I could just listen to a movement now and then. I do have them all even Number 10.
