CNN: "Line to get in was SIX MILES LONG!!!!"
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/28/invesco.color/index.html

DENVER, Colorado (CNN) -- Thousands stood in the warm temperatures in Denver, Colorado, on Thursday to wait in lines that are nearly six miles long, according to local police.

The lines snaked around ramps and onto the Auraria Boulevard overpass, which leads to Invesco Field, site of Sen. Barack Obama's acceptance speech.

Charlie Dominguez is spending his 47th birthday standing in line, hoping he will be able to count a ticket to the speech among his birthday gifts.

"It's just to be close," Dominguez said. "Everybody's electrified. I want a chance for the glimpse, ya know?"

Dominguez, who hails from traditionally red Kansas, said he was always a Republican until this year, when he switched his registration to Democrat.

A few ticket-holders and would-be attendees arrived at Invesco Field by 9 a.m. By noon, the line for the entrance included roughly a thousand people, according to media reports.

A group of transportation volunteers in orange T-shirts with the convention logo walked toward the front of the line. They called out, "What time is it?" People responded, "Obama time!"

4. REminds me of the line from JAWS
"You're gonna need a bigger stadium!"

I've been to some pretty big concerts in my life, but this beats all of them for crowd size/enthusiasm.

5. So now the repubs have to counter witha huge rally
The Metreodome is in Minneapolis, and although it is among the worst places in the USA to watch a baseball game, maybe the repubs could cram all of the McCain fans in there. Or maybe they could put them in aunt Fannie's kitchen.

They do not want to be seen at the Hubert H Humphrey Meterodome
It is only named by one of the greatest DFLers from Minnesota in the last century.

10. there's not a single thing on this earth that i would wait thru a 6-mile line for.
i won't wait more than 10 minutes for a table in a restaurant.
i really hate waiting in long lines...life is way too short to waste on queue.

Edited on Thu Aug-28-08 08:21 PM by depakid
Snaking the lines around unneccesarily round the city to make a point? To create opportunities for vendors and pols?

Imagine if they played that sort of game for the Broncos or for a concert?

Bunch of jerks.

16. You didn't need to have lines like that for security purposes. Please.
A lot of us who've been to these events before just rode around to the entrances, locked our bikes and walked in- like normal folks, rather than sheep.

21. Who had the time and money to go to Denver anyway?
I don't know four people with enough vacation time OR cash to make such a trip.

Seems like CSPAN would be the more green and efficient way to see and hear the speakers.
