but that was just the eye. The rain behind the eye is something else. It's been pelting for five hours now - no lightning and thunder though. Half of the city has no power. Guess I'm lucky. I don't care if the power goes now - I saw Obama. My only regret is I can't hear Keith. Guess I'll wait for Countdown tomorrow.
I hope for the mainland's sake that Gustav sheds some of this rain before landfall because if it strengthens and brings all this rain, somewhere is up S creek without a paddle. The system is still moving at 6mph.

just raining non-stop. After the serious hurricanes we've faced, this is a cakewalk. I'm listening to people calling in. Some of them are really scared - some serious damage is being inflicted as I type.
And can you believe it's not even a hurricane? It's still packing winds just below hurricane strength.
There are two things you have to experience for yourself to know what a storm like that is like: how loud it is and what a pain in the ass it is to keep rain driven horizontal out of your living space.
David (son) is in NO and will go to Memphis. It's hard to see all the work the volunteers have done for the last 3 years go down the drain. We'll see. Glad to hear you're ok and got to see:
