She seems to have shut DU up about Obama's speech. And the Times has now replaced its giant Obama "Takes the Fight to McCain" with a giant McCain VP Pick Eclipses Obama headline.

But if that was her purpose, McCain still has to deal with the rest of election season. He still has to deal with the media and Dems using Palin as a blank slate to write whatever they want upon her.

I still don't see this as too swift a move. It still reeks of desperation.

3. Most likely any choice would have sparked debate
Palin, maybe moreso than some others, but I think it was obvious that almost no matter who McCain chose, it was going to change the topic of discussion around here.

4. Horrible choice. She's stolen the limelight in a negative way.

This pick manages to turn everyone's heads from a very successful Dem convention, yes-- but the image they're immediately hit with is one of political desperation and flat out poor judgement. If this was his choice, he should've waited a week to announce it. Announcing this one day after the Dem convention only draws more of a contrast between Obama's very prudent choice of Biden.

Honestly, I don't know what McCain's campaign is thinking here. This was an insanely stupid move.

8. Yep, good choice to get headlines.
If McCain really wanted to enhance his chances of being elected,, he should have picked a female with a bit more fire. Is there a Repub version of Hillary? It certainly isn't Palin. Compare Biden's first appearance with hers. No contest.

This is a nation of short attention spans. She will be news for a couple days, and then something else will come up. In the end, I think she may win McCain a few votes, but most of them would have been sitting home anyway.

9. There were a lot of other women or people of color McCain could have picked. She's a lightweight.
