Rice grown with Human Genes -

How do most people feel about this? I think it's disturbing. It's Soylent Green come true. Why does the USDA allow this, but not stem cell research (maybe I am incorrect in seeing these 2 things as somewhat similar) but that's what comes to mind.

4. Not a Vegetarian
but I don't even like the idea of putting chicken genes into tomatoes, which they have been doing for some time now. Do they label them as such? Of course not. I guess you just have to buy "organic"? I don't know.

Human genes? No, I don't like that either.

6. Dunno to be honest
It's human genes, not a human so I can't see an ethical problem with it. We eat small amounts of human genes all the time but from a scientific POV, one has to question the wisdom.

7. It's nothing like soylent green.
This is one immune protein, it's not like soylent green at all. Also, there are no real similarities with stem cell research.

That said, I'm against this kind of thing because of the strong possibility of genetic contamination of other crops and wild plants. It's happened in the past and their's nothing to prevent it from happening again. This type of pharmaceutical production by genetic engineering should be done in cell cultures in controlled laboratory environments and not in open fields where wildlife and wind can carry the pollen far and wide.

8. I have mixed feelings about frankenfood because
Edited on Sun Mar-11-07 03:48 PM by Cleita
not enough research has been done to measure the impact it will have on the environment as a whole. As far as human genes being spliced with it, it's not like we are eating another human. It's still a plant. This is what I think seriously.

Now for what I think laughingly. Could the rice evolve into sentient, intelligent beings?:wow:Somehow this brings a whole new meaning to the pod people analogy. Also, for those of you old enough to remember "The Day of the Triffids" will the rice Triffids devour us and take over the world?

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

11. WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
It is just NOT TRUE that Rice was grown with human genes!

I mean, just look at Condoleeza!!

Anyone can tell that she is inhuman.

And her policies confirm that she is totally inhuman.

I repeat -- Rice was NOT grown with human genes!

;-)
