WTF is this coy little game Dodd is playing?

...Reporters asked Dodd to describe specifically what Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson said to lawmakers last Thursday that led to the sense of urgency on Capitol Hill this weekend. Dodd declined but compared his colleagues’ reactions to that of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

“If that doesn’t make the point, I don’t know want does. Because of the language used, it was a very sobering moment,” said Dodd.

How fucking patronizing. Spill it, Sen. Dodd. Or spare us the tease routine and shut the fuck up.

And step out of the way if, even at this moment, you don't respect us enough to level with us.

:grr:

1. It didn't "make the point" for me

Course, we could always examine the reaction of Congress & the whole of government after 911.

2. I think he was afraid to say how really bad things are. People are
panicked already! Too many Sens and Reps. have talked about "a very sobering moment" for it not to be true. I'm sure Paulson is litterally shaking in his shoes, and to rile up the public any more than they are right now would be foolish.

3. Then he shouldn't saying anything about the meeting.

This routine of his -- "It's terrible horrible CATACLYSMIC... but let's not talk about it heh heh" -- is not helpful at all.

It's patronizing, at best. At worst, it plays right into the sowing-fear-and-discord sort of nonsense that I'd expect from Cheney & Co.

11. I didn't need Paulson to put fear in my head! I switched all our 401K funds
that are in mutual funds to the safest ones they had. My husband is 66 & I turned 65 last Monday! Even in the safest funds, the value dropped over 5%. I know that doesn't sound like much to YOU, but the total wasn't very much to begin with, and we can't afford to lose more. We're going to try to make it on SS alone and HOPE something straightens out soon!

like they did with Iraq Invasion, Patriot Act, FISA and the rest.

It's "Shock and Awe"...you go to the Congress and yell..."FIRE!..FIRE!!...FIRE!!! Imminent Destruction and the Congress hustles in an all night session and passes whatever the Lobbists or the Heritage Foundation and AEI write. In this case it was Wall Street that wrote the legislation...but then they've been behind as much as Heritage and AEI...and often working in concert with both. :-(

13. What was Paulson's description? I'd like to think...

... I have a right to know.

Failing that, if my "betters" have decided I can't be trusted with that information... then why the allusions and veiled references, the melodramatic scene-setting?

Not helpful.

6. reminds me of the OBL "evidence"
they never did tell the American people what this great evidence was that proved that OBL was behind 9/11. They just let that one go too and the next thing you know, it is off to Iraq we go!

I'd like a goddamn explanation too!

SPEAK UP AND TELL THE PEOPLE THE TRUTH DODD & PELOSI!!!

12. I don't trust Dodd anymore. In the last banking bill he snuck in a provision that all online credit
card sales be immediately reported to the government and I mean all sales. Both buyer and seller. Big Brother.

14. Dodd head of Senate banking committe said he was surprised.
Either he is not competent to hold his position as head of the banking committee or he doesn't believe what he was hearing. If the first, he should not be reelected and if the second, he should have said so and not led the public on with how surprised he and the rest of the Congress members were over the news of the financial disaster that was upon us.

17. In other words, our political and financial system is more
f-up then they want us to know. Hey, hey, who was watching the store- - don't let the sheep (otherwise known as the fundamentals, that are going to keep our economy strong, per mccain) know the truth, they can't handle it, yada, yada........ of course sarcasm. Does this mean the repubs will win again by fear and terror? This time tho we have to sell our soul and stored cash to save ourselves. Where is Bin Laden when the repubs need him. Where is the red alert, or whatever that dreadful color was, that we need to buy more gray tape and saran wrap?

Amazing how wall street comes crashing down days before an election. The head spins.

18. I agree that Dodd's assessment is unacceptable.

Why do the guys who have been fooled so many times before swallow this whole?

"OH MY GOD LIFE WILL NEVER RECOVER FROM THIS UNLESS WE _______________!"

Once again, Democrats are being stampeded by fear. Here's an idea: Tell Wall Street there's a place designed to allow them to deal with their debts: It's not congress, it's not the FED. It's the bankruptcy court. Go there. File. Find out how millions of Americans feel when they can't pay their HOSPITAL BILLS!

This is just another phony catastrophe around which the forces of evil craft a scheme to further screw everyone except them.

19. Have these powerful people any idea how scared many
of us are that we will have another 4 years of repub total control over our lives, income, country? We have lived through 8 years of continuous lies about the state of our Union. Hell, I can handle total collapse, what do you call this multi trillion dollar bailout of our "finer institutions" if it isn't already total collapse. Of course I don't know crap about economics but I do know trillions is more than I can contemplate. How many countries would like to have that kind of money to run their country on?

Someone needs to tell dummies like me what total collapse of our economy means? Do we all need to invest in Halliburton as it seems it isn't on the disaster list. I feel so duped by the news we are getting I am furious and rattling off a lot about things I don't understand.
