What happens on Rosh Hashannah
Among other things, one's financial situation for the coming year is written. You have a few weeks additional time to plead that the judgement be a good one.

Ironic or fitting time for an economic meltdown?

I only posted in response to Blunt's blaming the Jews for the holiday recess.

7. The difference being that on purely domestic matters,
since everything's shut, time stands still for Xmas.

When the House leaves town for Xmas, just try keeping the NYSE open on 12/25 and make sure the the NASDAQ is up and trading. The guards will arrest you.

The same can't be said for Trumpets and Atonement. Time continues, markets open, trade in securities just keeps on going. If the markets are poised to collapse the next time they open, that'll be while the House and Senate are stopped as a courtesy to some of their members. I'd keep the House in session, personally speaking; if I were still observant, I'd have the #2 keep things going. There are times when courtesy is appropriate; I'm not sure this is one of them.

Let's just be glad that Sukkoth isn't observed in Judaism the way my church observed it--it essentially was a retreat, and we'd all leave town for 9 days. If the Senate and House did that, there'd be an 11-day gap in a couple of weeks.

2. Blunt what?
I missed that.

You're kidding, right?

When G-d writes Blunt's name in the Book of Life, I think He might put a great big "X" through it.

So, Blunt's an anti-Semite.

6. This is just incredibly bad timing
On Rosh Hashanah, it is written. On Yom Kippur, it is sealed.

Or so I remember from endless services I attended when I was young.

Will Blunt pop an aneurysm if they're not done by Yom Kippur and the Jews need another day to attend services on what's only the holiest, most solemn day of the year?

8. It's when Jews call Stephen Colbert and apologize for ...
... the many ways they having disappointed him throughout the year.
