Rachel Maddow's makeup is really weird
They have her all oranged up, except around the eyes, where she's really white.

1. Why do people think it's attractive to be orange?

2. And I learned in high school that too-light concealer (we all used Erace, remember?)
gave you 'raccoon eyes'.

She usually looks so pretty - maybe the station used a different makeup artist?

And, since I'm here, I've often wondered if she wears false eyelashes on the show - they are so lush and gorgeous. If she does, I bet she can't wait to yank them off as soon as the show ends.

3. The makeup artists have had some really different "takes" on Rachel...
Early on with Keith there were days that she looked amazingly gorgeous (she is a naturally attractive woman but the right makeup can really make you "pop"), but that may have been too femme for her tastes because she ultimately settled on a kind of androgynous look that suits her well.

I just have this vision of Our Rachel heading for the ladies' room to scrub her face as soon as taping ends. lol.

Television is undeniably a visual medium. Male or female, you have to have a certain level of attractiveness and if you are serious, a wardrobe style that doesn't scream at the audience.

Rachel is easy on the eyes. I'm glad, because if she wasn't we would probably be denied her manifest intelligence and bubbly personality for an hour every night.

5. I have to say I've noticed that, too...
For awhile, it was a different "look" every night. The more natural they left her, the better. (The worst was bright pink lipstick and blue eye shadow!)

Not to be superficial... Just sayin'.

4. They'll keep working on her until she has plastic surgery and is anorexic ---!!!

Rachael is great looking -- her own style was NATURAL -- fresh --- youthful --

They've dyed her hair some ghastly color and given her matronly clothing --

and the eye make up --- and the ridiculous false eyelashes -- !!!

She may be a lesbian but they're going to make sure there's NO hint of that --- !!!

9. She chooses her own wardrobe. Nice article in the LA Times about her today...

TELEVISION
Rachel Maddow finds the right formula on MSNBC
The liberal radio host has earned surprising ratings on her cable show.
By Matea Gold
Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

September 29, 2008

NEW YORK -- Rachel Maddow looked as if she were about to leap into the air with excitement. The newly minted MSNBC host was crouched on a swiveling office chair, her feet propped underneath her, gleefully contemplating the day's sudden turn of events.
<snip>
In 2004, she made it onto Air America, a self-styled liberal antidote to conservative talk radio. The post brought her to the attention of cable news producers looking for fresh voices.

"I thought it was funny to be asked at first," said Maddow, who still hosts a daily Air America show. "Really, me? A face made for radio, if there ever was one. I think I was very self-conscious about being visually presented, and I still am, to a certain extent."

On one side of her still-bare office hang about a dozen suits in varying shades of black and gray, her on-air uniform. "It is a rainbow of monochrome," acknowledged Maddow, who dresses off-air like a gangly teenager in baggy jeans and sneakers. "I just want to meet a basic threshold of what you're supposed to look like on television so it's not a topic of concern or discussion."

6. It's too bad Rachel can't be out there "dressed like a 10 year old boy"
That's how she describes her own style. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers. We got Rachel on tv 5 nights a week!

8. I wonder if the lights have been examined
in order to calibrate her make up. Newer set - may still be making changes to that effect.

Seems like McPain has learned a bit -- not QUITE so cadaverous looking today.

Joe - take heed.
