Poll question: Will Palin be wired for the debate, like Bush was?
What do you think?

I don't see how they have any other option.

1. Why not contact the people who are putting on the debate and demand it not be so?

Here is the contact information:

On Edit: here is the message I sent them

"Will either of the debaters in Thursday night's Vice Presidential debate be allowed to wear any sort of device which allows them to be prompted for answers? It was noticed my millions that during one of the 2004 debates that President Bush was clearly wearing a device under his jacket, many suspect it was giving him advice on answers or other information to sway the debate. I certainly hope your institution is guarding against such a thing happening Thursday."

2. No.
It will be tempting, but it could also be disastrous with someone who's not accustomed to using an earpiece.

6. Bush certainly wasn't. But it still helped him.
There were several times in the 2004 debate where shrub seemed so over his head and confused, clearly unable to separate the voices in his head from the voice of the moderator. Yet, he still managed to provide the impression that he knew his ass from a hole in the ground, at least that's what the MSM said. Somehow the NYT knew about the wire that shrub was wearing, but didn't want to report on it for fear that it might influence the presidential election. That makes so much sense. From now on newspapers should stop reporting on news that might have an effect on elections. Everyone knows that's not what newspapers are supposed to do.

9. In the Couric interview Sarah totally lost it
W actually has poise when he needs to. Sarah could melt down - too much at stake.

Since the answers will be short IMO she will be regurgitating memorized soundbites.

That would be so fucking hilarious.

7. Yeah but she will get confused and blow it anyway
look, she had talking points in hand and I think it actually makes her worse, will just love to hear her get confused because she is not very quick witted. She is used to flogging feel good, homey basic GOP themes and anything else comes out like a 6 year old reading the WSJ.

8. A friend of ours directs movies. We were talking about this subject
Sunday evening and he told us that devices exist that are so quick, like a second delay, that someone's else's words could be sent to her and we would be unaware of a delay. It demonstrated this by repeating himself.....it was somewhat unnerving.

It was somewhat unnerving..it was somewhat unnerving...to listen to this..to listen to this...do you understand?...do you understand?...

Someone here mentioned that we should pay attention to sp's hairstyle on Thursday night!

12. It takes some skill to repeat convincingly
what you're being fed in an earpiece. She may be up to it, but if she gives it away the stakes are enormous.

19. Some food for thought: Maybe Sarah's been taking lessons and two,
the stakes were not enormous enough to * to cost him the election and then three, Laura Bush says that Palin is a quick study! Just my humble opinion.

20. All good points
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this very debate is taking place at GOP headquarters as we write.

10. This debate for Palin will be so simple she won't need an earpiece.
She will be given a list of pat answers for each subject and will run out the clock. I will be looking to see if she keeps with the George Bush tactic of making sure to list all the world leaders by name. After her worldwind, Epcot-like ride, of the nations of the UN, she has been funny to watch as she names the leaders. I think after a few days she may get the names confused. I look for her not name anyone in the debate.

Lehrer did a decent job... I'd hope she'd do the same.

17. Obama's crew should bring a transmitter and jam the
signal from time to time with a loud screeching sound. When she grabs her ears screaming it will be a dead giveaway.

18. Of course - what have they got to lose?
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 11:23 AM by Dumak
She will be well-practiced with its use, and can either repeat what is said to her verbatim, or simply use it as a cue for whichever 60-second pre-rehearsed blurb should be used. She does well with a teleprompter, and shouldn't be too difficult to use an audioprompter.

Edit: I have just done a little test to see if I could repeat radio commercials as they were being spoken. I found it to be very easy to do, and that's with absolutely no rehearsal. And I am not a good natural talker. So the idea that it would be too confusing for Palin (who has sportscaster experience), just doesn't make sense to me.
