Knowing that the Republicans had already distributed attack ads blaming Democrats for PASSING the bailout, perhaps she purposely irritated them, knowing that they were fragile, petty children.

As a result, the GOP whined about "mean" Pelosi, sank the deal out of spite, and also sank their chances at getting credit for a Bi-partisan bill.

The Republicans now get the blame for the failure, all the while the Democrats escaped the "Big Spender" trap (evidenced from the premature attack ads) and emerge with stronger political standing.

Now the Democrats can simply push a Democratic leaning plan that the Republicans will just have to swallow or they (the Republicans) risk losing more seats.

Crazy like a Fox??????

1. I've heard your theory a few times today and it's starting to make sense.

2. Oh - sorry if I was repetitive.
I did a brief scan and didn't find any similar titles/intros - maybe it was discussed within some other posts?

3. No... nonono.... I'm delighted to know that I'm not the only one
who's interested in this theory. Right off the bat, I felt Nancy made "the remarks" on purpose. I just didn't take the time to try and figure out why. You make sense.

5. She didn't have the votes to begin with. I'm surprised she let it go for a vote.
She got lucky (This time).
She should thank everyone that voted no.
They are the ones that saved her ass and her beloved party.

He seemed very unstable, mined a lot of words, and just looked like a whipped pup.

It was wonderful.

9. I actually think that having a litle swagger is good for the election
I recall a post on Dailykos where someone (a sociologist I think) explained how the Republicans snide demeanor & taunting was actually a way of harnessing our imprinted school day experiences. The "cool" kids were the ones who felt they had license to tease and strut around the non-cool kids.

Apparently, no matter how much we grow and 'mature' that imprint remains powerful in our psyche.

We don't have to be total assholes, but a little confident teasing might actually positively affect public perception of the Democratic party.

15. I can see it but i have always teased repukes.
I can be plumb mean about it too. I have in fact been called a real world troll by some ( almost all repukes).

I have a weird position though. I am/was the cool tough guy 2x state wrestling champ, extensive background in Golden Gloves, coupled with a few professional fights.

I was the tough cool guy, but i was also smart and hung with the "nerds" more than jocks because the "nerds" were way more interesting to talk to. This often lead to me taking up for my smarter friends, and becoming an anti-bully in a way. In other words i like to bully those who bully others. It's fun to watch a tough guy cringe, and want to do something but can't because he knows not only would he get owned mentally, but physically as well.

Yes as Dem's we need more spine. We don't have to go the pure asshole route the repukes did However we need to learn to strike at the right time, and the right way.

If i had to compare it to a martial art i would say we needed to learn Akido Totally defensive, non-lethal, yet any attack has the energy redirected to make the opponent look like a fool.

10. I think that no one in the House has ever intended to pass this bill.
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 03:29 PM by McCamy Taylor
I believe it was planned all along. When has Pelosi, the great conciliator, ever taken a stand against W. on anything? She probably asked the GOP leader "What do I have to do so that you guys can walk out on the vote and save face so that we can walk out on the vote and save face so that none of our opponents back home can use this as an issue to campaign against us in November." And they shook hands on it.

And I think the Senate told the House "You guys are gonna make sure that we never have to vote in this turkey, right? Right? "

Because, remember, an issue like this that is bad for incumbents is good for Republican challengers.

12. I'd be more inclined to believe that if...
...I'd ever seen Nancy maneuver with anything close to that level of aplomb previously.

14. This whole bailout deal has been nothing if not good for Dems. Look at
the big White House Meeting bush called for instance. And the recent stunning defeat of the negotiated bill makes Repos stink bad.
