6. I heard that it got mentioned on Countdown tonight.
It may have just been overwhelmed with traffic and they locked it on purpose, the colocation admins may have insisted, something like that.

Or they may simply not have paid the rent. :)

16. I used Verizon and got Google, used AT&T aircard and got 538
Let's try to figure it out -- would everyone please note who their ISP is when they identify whether they got blocked or got through?

I tried to report it to Verizon but there is no way to do so -- their forms won't allow it and there are no real people employed there anymore (or maybe they are all in India).

the traffic jams up.

21. Worked fine for me. I'm certainly not seeing caches because (1) I cleaned out all my caches
earlier today and (2) to my best recollection, I never heard of www.fivethirtyeight.com/ before now. Since I spent most of the day on machine maintenance, and since my memory isn't a total wreck, it's unlikely that I visited the site after emptying all my caches

Don't dig this at all. All sites mentioned "take me to google".

While that's an interesting name for a song, I don't like the experience.

As far as I know, I don't have any spyware baddies on my machine.

So, this is an issue with sites that are paying for Blogger hosting?

Fucking Google.

IP Location: California - Mountain View - Google Inc
Response Code: 200
Domain Status: Registered And Active Website

Perhaps their account only allows a certain amount of data transfers per month and they have reached their limit. Or perhaps there is an issue with the server hardware, or fivethirtyeight.com missed a payment...

Regardless, it is not unusually for a web hosting service to have a default page in the event of problems - in this case, a Google page.
