Try to count the nanoseconds each glance will take, and then he'll probably only do it while he's speaking. I'm betting he doesn't watch Obama as Obama speaks.

Paling did the same thing with Biden. She would glance at him only when she was speaking, sometimes to make a dig, like "The line is drill, baby drill" but mostly it was probably to take a quick read of his reactions to what she was saying. Otherwise she kept her eyes down on her notes.

If you count the length of each glance it'll surprise you at how short they are. Less than a second.
