Today I went out of my way to patronize a progressive retailer.

I live in NW suburban Chicago and heard their ad running on progressive radio WCPT AM-820.
Since I'm off this week, my wife and I went out to breakfast and then decided to stop in this store.
We were delighted with their 100% Made-In-America merchandise.
The proprietor is a socially conscious progressive, which is a HUGE PLUS!
Their website is here-
http://nortonsusa.com/

They are just 2 blocks off the main drag in Barrington, Illinois and have some REALLY cool stuff!
100% of what they sell is American made-
Handcrafted toys
Some way cool gifts.
Jeans and denim jackets
Honey, jams, and jellies
Pots, pans, and kitchen essentials
Gift wrapping paper, bows, and such
Socks and shirts made from corn byproducts
Environmentally sustainable cleaning products
and a whole lot more!

I've never been there before today, don't know the owners, and have no connection with the them (other than being progressives who listen-to/advertise-on the only progressive radio station in our metro of 8+ million people)

One of the items we bought was a really cool black lace halloween-themed witch door cover measuring 7-foot by 3-foot.
We'll use this to cover our front door during the fall season.
We also bought some gifts for our nephew who has a birthday soon.
We're particularly thrilled with the eco-friendly cleaning products we picked-up.

The economy sucks due to the republicans, so I will go out of my way to support small businesses owned by progressives.
I hope you will too!

6. Everything you buy there supports a living American family in America.
It was my privilege to help sell the work of over 700 American craftspeople for 20 years.

11. Every farmstand, every local 'cheese factory', the jars of local honey
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 01:02 AM by Mind_your_head
you can buy at local events, places to buy locally raised beef, pork, and chicken, the little un-manned stands you see outside of homes in Hawaii where you pay because of the "honor system", etc., etc.....ALL HELP support a living American family!

There are LOTS of opportunities outside of large cities and their suburbs to buy local. Mostly likely there are MORE opportunities outside of large cities - keep your eyes open for them!

on edit: oops, I meant to reply to post #7. Thanks for helping local people market/sell their goods for more than 20 years!!!! Good on ya! :hi:

16. Good point
I've never been in a rural location long enough to get connected to all the local networks. Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle has a great description of Kentucky's version of that.

7. I try to go progressive and/or local wherever possible
Easier if you are in a city or the burbs, certainly.

12. Please see post #11 - I meant that one to respond to you.
Buy local - there are MANY opportunities if we all just look around a little bit more than we do!

Peace,
